[After trying to get through to Route 36 to get to Violet City, Sakutaro has found it impossible to get there on his own with a strange tree blocking his path. So he has switched directions, heading down the path east from Ecruteak City. He doesn't want to go through Mahogany Town, but he has to find another way to New Bark Town somehow.
...But there's another obstacle in his way: Water. Both his companions are still a low level and none of them even know how to use Surf.
For those that were keeping an eye on Sakutaro, he's no longer in Ecruteak City... but he's not too far off! He's just outside of it.
When the video feed flickers to life. It's dark, but his Growlithe made a fire nearby to light up the area. (Yes, he finally trained his pokémon enough to know Ember.)
At first, his head is turned as he addresses his only two pokémon.]
Sakura, Gao. We have to find another way to get to Maria. Uryuu...

[He lets out a small whine, then glances back down at the Gear.]
