[Hey, Johto! Ken's outside enjoying the sun and half-decent temperatures after the surprise misery that was yesterday, letting his Pokemon run around, the usual. He's tired of being inside, man. :c There's a couple new additions to the Pokemon either running or sitting around him--a Skorupi that keeps eying Ken sidelong as if the man's gonna up and ( Read more... )

How do you humans tolerate this weather?

In my case, by complaining about it to anyone who'll listen.

But on a larger scale, that's what we invented heating and air conditioning for.

[He grunts -- yeah, that's a familiar method of coping.]

And if you lack access to those things?

More complaining.

Though if you go jump in some water it helps with the too warm part. Too cold, just gotta put more clothes on. It's a bit of a pain, but...

Your species is incredibly inefficient.

Yeah, well, we muddle through somehow.

What were you before? If you don't mind me asking.

I do not see how.

Autobot. [A beat.] Sentient mechanical life form from another world.

Sometimes I don't either, honestly.

[Usually when he's been shot or stabbed or something.]

Huh. Like a Gundam or something, only...well not at all I guess, since those always had pilots. Pretty awesome, at any rate.

[Well, he is Japanese, he'd have to have his membership revoked if he didn't know what Gundam was.]

Well, at least we squishy people-things can be pretty resilient.

A primitive species... hmnf.

Like a what?

[Seriously, what is a 'gundam'?]

Um...it's a cartoon series where I'm from. Giant robots with human pilots fighting out in space for the good of all or something. Some of them could do things like turn into planes or had flamethrowers and laser swords and stuff.

I never watched it much as a kid. That's about all I remember.

You... had cartoons of Cybertronians? With humans controlling them?

[Oh Ironhide -- if only you knew.]

Cybertronians? Like...that's where you're from?

No, all of them were made on Earth. Or on space colonies around Earth. Or something like that. There's a lot of shows where I'm from with something like that...it's an entire genre.

...I guess that would be pretty awkward to think about. Um.

Cybertron was our home world, yeah.

[Silence. Yes. Yes, it is awkward to think about.]

Not sure how I am supposed to take this.

Sounds interesting.

[That's okay, I'm sure someone'll fourth-wall the hell out of Ken eventually. Y'know, if his canon weren't so damn obscure.]

With a huge heaping of salt? I mean, we also have movies about giant radioactive lizards that rampage through our biggest population center and other...really weird things.

It was.

... Salt? What does... salt have to do with lizards?

[Idioms - how do they work.]

...it means 'don't take it seriously.'

[Well, Godzilla also came from the ocean, and that's salty...

...wait what does that matter.]
