001 : video / action for new bark town

Feb 14, 2011 16:20

[A tall, lanky young man, dark-haired, with makeup under his eyes, peers into the camera. It's unsettling to see, as though he's looking through the comm and straight at the viewer.]Hello. I am Rue Ryuuzaki, unprivate detective. If anyone has a case that needs solving, I would be willing to lend my assistance - for a fee, of course. For those ( Read more... )

The solution to the most pressing case here is one I believe we would find in a much more efficient manner by combining our techniques and disregard such things as fees.

[Just a bit of disapproval in the look he's giving the person on the other side of gear. Who thinks about that when having just woken up in a strange world?]

[nothing but creepiness in the stare he's giving back.]

But we must provide for ourselves in the meantime, Mister...?

Cooper.

[He frowns in preturn.]

There are other ways to provide for yourself here.

[He offers a long, slow blink, as though blinking is something he's not used to doing.] This one would play to my strengths and provide a service to the community. Is there a problem?

Not really.

I'm just curious as to whether you will investigate why we're here.

Of course. As, I assume, a fellow investigator, do you have any information to share?

If you'd first like to tell me if there's a particular reason why your name and appearance are near identical to someone else here.

Hmm... I've been informed by several people that someone similar in appearance to me is already here, but as to what it means... truthfully, Mr. Cooper, I am unsure. It is another mystery for us to solve, no?

Hm.

[That is a blank response, really, but he moves on.]

Assuming you would not want us to pay you to help with this particular investigation, feel free to ask what you'd like to know.

All knowledge is valuable. In particular, though, I suppose I would like to know any common trends among the people who arrive here, before they arrive and after - who they are, what point in their lives they are taken from, any goals or tasks that seem to have been given to all of us, that sort of thing.

Oh, and any rumors you may have come across, no matter the source or verisimilitude.

Almost everyone arrive in New Bark Town. I believe you start in a place called Mahogany if you are recruited by Team Rocket, a group that seems to be focused on organised crime. Some believe they have something to do with why we are here.
There is a vast diversity among who is brought here and from where, as we are all from different times and worlds.
The goals we are seemingly assigned seem to be of three varities: to be a trainer and beat the gym challenge, to be a breeder or to do work for Team Rocket.

There are many rumours here, but even more theories and speculations. It would be impractical to try to relay them all to you.

The most popular, then? Or those that you feel are the most valid. [There's a pause, as though he has to remember to tack on the extra word.] Please.

The most popular has to do with Team Rocket's involvement. Personally, I try not to come up with a theory before I have evidence or hard fact to work from.

Without a theory, one wouldn't know where to start. Evidence is important in our line of work, Mr. Cooper, but so is instinct.

Instinct doesn't necessarily relate to theories, Ryuuzaki.

Pursuing a theory before you have the proof will make you try to make your evidence suit the theory rather than the other way around, which is obviously preferable.

Not if one remains cognizant of the mind's tendency to do so.
