[A tall, lanky young man, dark-haired, with makeup under his eyes, peers into the camera. It's unsettling to see, as though he's looking through the comm and straight at the viewer.]Hello. I am Rue Ryuuzaki, unprivate detective. If anyone has a case that needs solving, I would be willing to lend my assistance - for a fee, of course. For those

[Light listens intently with his arms folded across his chest, his expression thoughtful. Clearly if L was going to be generous enough to give an explanation, about his past nonetheless, there's little doubt in Light's mind that it is because the detective is convinced Light will not remember it. Either that or this Beyond person is extremely dangerous.
...And as it turns out. Light is pleased to hear that he is not wrong. Criminal. Wait. Beyond. ...L couldn't possibly mean... No wonder he hadn't made the connection right away. Beyond Birthday looked nothing like the person who had broadcast that message. The Beyond Birthday Light knew was covered in burn scars. His skin was literally nothing more than a grotesque patchwork quilt of pink and white skin grafts.
But something is not adding up. His eyes narrow slightly as he tries to recall...Light had written hundreds of names. Hundreds of hundreds. He couldn't guarantee with complete confidence that he remembered all of them, even with his near eidetic memory. But then again, with a name and face as distinctive as Beyond Birthday's, there is no forgetting the fact that Light had written his name into the Death Note months ago. ...So why? Why wasn't the bastard dead? Was this... some bizarre form of hell? No, no. Light reassures himself. Ryuk had said otherwise.
Casting that pesky existential dilemma aside for consideration at a later moment in time, he would consider another point. Just why did L think Light would agree to travel with a mentally deranged serial killer? If Beyond Birthday was so goddamn harmless-and Light scoffed at the idea that Beyond was harmless at all-then why couldn’t he just wander Johto alone?
Clearly L never had the opportunity to speak to Believe Bridesmade, Quarter Queen, or Backyard Bottomslash. Oh wait. I wonder why. He very nearly rolls his eyes. But at this point his neurons fire in rapid bursts; Light realizes he has missed the point entirely. He has been trapped. Oh touche, L. React to the name Beyond Birthday and it'll increase my goddamn percentage even further will it? Now isn't that just.... This stings a thousand times worse than the insult to his forehead.
With L watching him- though Light does notice that L seems much more fatigued than usual- there is absolutely no way he can react to any of this. He's forced to grit his teeth and offer a sympathetic smile because... well because that's what a friend would have done. Goddamnit.
And as if the situation needed to be any worse, the damn nuisance had more or less confirmed that he had successors to his title. What was he, some kind of cockroach? How many of these goddamn successors did he have? Clearly Matt is one of them. L had helpfully, possibly accidentally, ousted the true nature of their relationship. Light never quite believed that story that the two of them were friends, and proof that he is correct yet again, should have left a victorious feeling in his body, but instead it’s all bitter. Bitter, and he would have to keep smiling through it, like some goddamn mannequin, though there is some reprieve from this. Who knew Light would be happy to see the day L accused him of being Kira yet again?]
When will you realize that you don’t need to watch over me?

Because you are Kira, simply put.

No. No, I am not. But we've gotten off topic. I refuse to travel in the company of a potentially dangerous criminal.
