"Oh, you sexy thing."

So. "The Eleventh Hour." About time I got some thoughts up. Just my usual ramblings. Prepare for the squee and massive spoilers for those of you crazy enough to wait for BBC America to air it.

To start, I have to admit to being elated that the episode started just like any old Rusty episode. With the planet zoom-in and the London landmarks and a bouncy TARDIS. It was a kind way of putting everyone at ease. Still the same show everyone, don't worry. Yes, Steven Moffat does like action, it wasn't going to start like a horror film, calm down.

Ooo, the vortex has now changed from blue swirlies and red swirlies to the grey storm of doom and the fiery pit of hell lava. Cool. Also, new theme. I'm loving the mash up; the main melody now has a bit of the old feel to it, but we still didn't lose any of the Murray Gold 'Huzzah!' along the way. I know I'm in the minority, but the new logo? Meh. It's fine, I guess. It also looks like the kind of logo you'd expect a sci-fi show to have, which might be why I'm not overly thrilled with it. I think Kels and I were the only two people on the planet who weren't bothered by the taxi cab logo. Well, us and the kiddies because they don't know any better. ~_^

A little Scottish girl praying to Santa. Can you really think of a better way to pull people in? That girl was damned precious. I want to adopt her. Letting a child be the first person to meet a new Doctor? Yes, please. And what's the first thing we learn about Eleven? He's the pickiest eater your mom ever tried to put peas in front of. <3 Is it wrong that I now want to try fish sticks and custard? Because I really do.

Something that sort of grabbed me: although there's no importance placed on it like there was in the RTD era, there is still the obligatory 'taking the companion's hand' moment. That moment happens when she is seven. I sort of loved that. The idea that she's been a companion her whole life from that point, even if she didn't know it.

And then the Doctor has to go and make promises about Time, which he should know better than to do by now, even if it is a new body. It's so very... Theta of him. Poor Amelia Pond wins the blue ribbon for Most Fucked Up Childhood Ever. You screwed the pooch big time on that one, Doc. So much so that she grows up to be a stripper kissogram. (Seriously, though, there seems to be some difference of opinion on whether or not she's actually just kissing her customers. Apparently, kissograms aren't so common these days?) Okay, slight issue - I get it, she's an orphan, we finally got a companion with very few ties to home. Plenty of people have been complaining about too many companion families hanging about. Okay, so we have something different this time. I can handle different so long as the next five companions aren't mysteriously orphaned too. But this absent aunt of Amy's? Um, we better get one hell of a good explanation on that one. She's never there? She lets a seven-year-old who's recently lost her parents stay home alone at 9PM at night? Where is she when all the crazy is going down? Is she dead now? Like I said, I either want to see this woman later, or I want some frigging brilliant reason why she has no presence whatsoever.

Jeff (Geoff? He is English...) and his gran are hilarious. Aaaand the Doctor's checking him out. You can practically see the thought process on that one, even as he's going on simultaneously about the the planet and the poles and twenty minutes. It's something along the lines of 'oh, hello, you know I'm in need of a replacement Jack and you're looking like you might just fit that bill....'

They stole the Star Trek's lensflare! It looked darned pretty in the moment, but I couldn't help a tiny giggle.

Rory = Mickey v2.0. Not that I don't like him because he's a dear and, frankly, I've always felt that there was a severe lack of people in DW who looked at the Doctor and went "OMG WTF DID YOU JUST DO? YOU'RE INSANE. AND NAKED." Well, apart from that last part. Although, hey there, looks like someone got over being coy. In a big way. To the point where he doesn't mind a future-companion watching him strip nekkid (way to go, Amy. No fear). Now his relationship with River makes even more sense. It's going to be all, "Ooo, handcuffs, yes, I remember those! ...I have a really very wonderful idea." XD

Let's talk about Eleven. Matt Smith has a quality that a lot of previous Doctor's have had, looks-wise; every Doctor who could be labeled "attractive" (some say they all are, but I'm sorry ladies, Sylvester McCoy is just not my type) is handsome in a quirky way. Matt Smith is no different. His physicality is somewhere between a child who has no idea how their limbs work and a very excited hunting dog. It is beyond endearing. There are certain bits of Ten still clinging - he's still a rambler, still a bit too energetic, still uses a familiar word or two (albeit with different inflection - his take on "What?!" almost killed me). But the confidence, oh noooo. We thought Ten was trouble. It's like he got validation from his mommy, saved Wilf, protected his friends, and now his Peter Pan Complex is back with A VENGEANCE. He can do no wrong. That's wonderfully dangerous. Also, the emo from the Time War? Gone. He's passed it now. Fuck you, Timothy Dalton Rassilon. No sad puppy eyes here. The most sorrow he can manage when he finds out that he's been gone another two years and left Amy again?--

"Ooooo, oops." Eleven. I love you.

And can I get a shout out for him taking a page out of Eight's book and gathering his clothing options from the hospital locker room? That's a pretty fantastic way of hearkening back to yesteryear. Better yet, he's getting dressed while telling an alien race to back off from his sandbox. (RTD said that the montage shot of all the Doctors had felt a little too schmoopy to him, but Julie Gardener had convinced him to leave it as a "Christmas present" to the fans on The Next Doctor. Apparently, Moffat has no problem with it. XD)

The TARDIS. Oh God. Sexy doesn't begin to cover it, she is fucking gorgeous. You can understand why the New Who TARDIS had its feel; they started off without a huge budget, and by the time they were getting lots of money, they weren't about to go redesigning the interior. But now they can and just... wow. I will say, there were very few TARDISes that ever felt like living spaces. Back during Classic Who most of the TARDIS sets were too empty and claustrophobic to really seem lived in. Again, it was during Eight's era. The TARDIS in the DW movie had high ceilings and a sitting room off the console area, and looked like a place where someone actually spent their time. A great mansion in space. That feel has been revitalized. It's still hodgepodge enough to be comfortable (she kept the bell! There's a typewriter! And faucet knobs!), but epically so. (Also, the TARDIS rebuilds herself when things go wonky? I LOVE THIS.) I am so excited to see more of her.

Interested in where Amy's character is going. I like her immensely, but I'm not entirely there with her yet. We didn't get to know her very well, we got to know seven-year-old her. And that's the person who I want to see. Her theme is just beautiful. And the new adventurey theme is all gaaaaaaaaaah. Damnit, Murray Gold, you must score this show until the end of time. I need your soundtrack like breathing.

Btw, on a count, just how many weddings has the Doctor broken up? This'll be... three? Sheesh, slow down. (Then again, married at 21? Wow, okay I know you feel betrayed but that's a little early, Amy dear.)

The teaser is killing me. I want all of these episodes RIGHT NOW. Again, the more money they get, the better everything looks. Locations and sets galore. It's so SHINY. I'm getting a real old-school Indiana Jones vibe for this season. And that tickles me all over.

Moar nao plz?

In other news, my taxes are filed (woohoo!), fic is still getting written, I was home for a couple of weeks to get an overhaul, I have glasses now and they are cute, I have murderous allergies, I have desperate need for lots of clothing, and I might have a new job. Keep your fingers crossed for me. The new year never seems to bring wonderful opportunities, but spring usually does. ^_^

Also! "The Eleventh Hour." Showing in a theater near us on the 14th. Moffat and cast will be on hand to answer questions afterward. My life is so cool right now.
