Bon Année!

Oh. My. Lord. Best New Year Ever.

Well, too much has happened in the past three weeks for me to do a proper recap in one post, but I will get to all of it eventually, I imagine. Including the mafia incident and Christmas in London.

Safe to say, New Years in Paris was amazing. Kelsey and I were lazy and let the adults go out, while we stayed in, but we finally decided to get out and try to get close enough to see the Eiffel Tower. It didn't work because the entire city was an antfarm, but the Metro was free that night, and we took a bottle of champagne to Notre Dame for the countdown. No one really knew when it was from there, but we popped the bottle, I put on my sunglasses, and we walked down along the side of the Seine in the City of Lights.

It's fine in Paris to walk around with an open bottle of alcohol. It's also fine to wish every stranger you pass a happy new year. It's also fine for random men to approach you on the street and kiss you. The French police were adorable, and they were polite enough to ask, at least, and all very good-looking. XD And then they next guys were Italian, apparently, which I didn't realize until later. They were also very sweet, even though I had no idea what they were saying, and they took goofy photos with us. And then the one French guy wanted to follow us home, and Kelsey told him no. We were pretty pissed by that time. I'd had about half that bottle of champagne and was flying. I also kept shouting "Bon Année!" (happy new year in french, of course) to all the boats travelling on the Seine and waving. Everyone waved back.

The hangover was minor since we drank a lot of water and ate bread when we got home. And the entire city was so alive. Everyone you met that night was your friend.

I'm fairly certain that a GO fic is going to come of it. ;)

We just had an amazing meal at some tiny little restaurant in the Latin Quarter. On our way back to our rented flat, we stopped on a bridge over La Seine where a man was playing French melodies on his accordian. A couple was dancing together on the bridge, untroubled by the idea of cars that might show up at any moment. Kelsey and my parents and I joined them. Then we left the man some Euros and continued home.

America, we've forgotten something. Let's cross the Atlantic and remember it again.

Love to you all. This year is going to be a great one. I have a feeling.

holiday cheer, i win, college life, travel
