Character name: Yuuka Kazami
Fandom: Touhou Project
Timeline: After Phantasmagoria of Flower View
Age: 60+, but actually suggested to be much older. Perhaps even older than Yukari...
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Yuuka is a youkai and considered one of the most dangerous in Gensokyo. While most youkai have both incredible strength and speed, Yuuka lacks the speed aspect and makes up with intelligence, high defense, and raw power. Mixed with the ability to fly all Gensokyo residents seem to have only adds to the danger. Her magical abilities and danmaku spells center around flowers, both growing them where she pleases and turning them into deadly projectiles, but she will rarely use them over her own physical strength. Only a few of her actual spell cards are known from Phantasmagoria, but many of her abilities remain unknown as most Gensokyo residents think it's wise to avoid her all together.
(Danmaku: While literally meaning "bullet curtain", in Touhou, Danmaku is a non-lethal (*cough*) form of fighting/dueling in Gensokyo bound by "spell cards". It's possible for humans, youkai, and other species to fight on an even level when they have disputes or feel like having some competition) .
Flower Shooting
A standard attack where she shoots flower bullets ahead of her. They are spread in a wide array, making them much more difficult to avoid.
Phantastic Spring Flowers
Summons flowers varying in size to attack. Of course, this attack goes in a straight line so it should be easy to avoid.
Flower Sign: Reflowering of the Gensokyo
Creates a cluster of yellow bullets that spreads out in the shape of a flower. It's a tight formation and quite difficult to avoid, but every other bullet can be destroyed and bypassed. Red bullets also hail with this attack in a loose rain formation.
Flower Sign: Reflowering of the Gensokyo+
It's the same as the other spell, but the bullets are stronger and none of them can be removed. Once again, the bullets spread in a flower pattern, but this attack is much more difficult to avoid. More red bullets hail with this attack to cover what spaces may be missed.
Phantasm: Appreciation of the Beauty of Nature
A powerful danmaku spell that takes Flower Sign: Reflowering of the Gensokyo and combines it with Phantastic Spring Flowers, causing a heavy onslaught of danmaku and flowers to hail upon her opponent. Also, she summons five streams of large yellow bullets and twirls around as they shoot forward, letting them soar in several directions.
Master Spark
While usually a strong spell used primarily by Marisa Kirisame, Yuuka utilizes a slightly weaker version, but is capable of using it multiple times. It's even rumored she's the one who originally created the spell. Master Spark itself is a laser that expands and covers a vast area, eradicating most everything in its path (it only shoots forward). Still, while 'weaker', it is Yuuka using it. It can cause devastating damage.
Dual Spark
Yuuka's personalized version of Master Spark. Duplicating herself, Yuuka and her clone both use Master Spark at once, covering more area and causing much more damage.
Any other abilities Yuuka uses go mostly unknown... except by her defeated opponents. It's not like they can inform others anymore. What is known is whatever she wants flowers to do, it will happen. (Withered flowers bloom again, sunflowers shift to face the sun, etc etc)
How would they use their abilities?:
Yuuka is a recluse youkai and chooses when she wants to fight. Of course, if she takes interest in a possible opponent, she will often provoke them into a match or, rarely, challenge them. Also, she might look for a fight if she gets positively bored and doesn't want to sleep instead. The only way to enrage and guarantee provoking her to attack is by damaging any flowers. She's a youkai who's quite literally a Force of Nature.
Appearance:
Image 1 and
Image 2 Quite human in appearance like some other youkai in Gensokyo and standing at around 5' 4", Yuuka is (most commonly) seen wearing a red plaid skirt with a matching vest over a long sleeved, button-up blouse along with black stockings and brown loafers. Around the collar is a yellow ascot that matches quite well with her short, wavy green hair and crimson eyes. She frequently carries a parasol with her that's rumored to be the only flower in Gensokyo that will never wilt so it's very precious to her.
(Quite possibly, the parasol is a flower called an Udumbara considered legendary in Buddhism. Other abilities it holds are cutting UV rays, blocking the rain, and stopping danmaku)
Background:
Before Gensokyo was formed, humans and youkai occupied Japan, tossing it into turmoil and instability because of the clashing species. For humans who wanted to be rid of youkai, it was always best to get them while they were still young and leave them to suffer until death. There was one young youkai recently causing a small village trouble, but she truly wasn't.
Yuuka was a unique youkai even at a young age. She traveled the land seasonally to see the flowers and care for them until it was time to move again. This village, however, was near a flower she had become very fond of; one said to never wither. Often the young youkai female found herself sitting with the flower and talking to it, smiling as they held what could be considered a conversation.
During one of her visits, the humans ambushed Yuuka, beating her severely with any tools they could grab, and left her to die next to the flower which they plucked and stomped on until it was mostly shredded. As she stared blankly at her flower, its crying rang in her ears, over and over like a siren. Her clawed hands dug into the earth soaked with her blood and she forced herself to rise. With what strength she had left, she restored her flower to its luster and replanted it before collapsing.
The humans didn't expect her to rise again, but that evening, under the full moon, Yuuka walked into the village, the precious, unwilting flower fashioned into a parasol and leveled everything. Every last human was slaughtered and ground into the earth as were their buildings and tools. The remains were twisted into the roots of her flower patch, making the blossoms bloom red, and gleam in the moonlight. Before the sun came up, she was already gone; only the red flowers remained the symbolize the village that had once been. It could be said that these events caused her to become the sadistic creature she is now.
For some time (after Gensokyo's creation), Yuuka left to Mugenkan, a mansion inside the dream realm. There, she was active very little and slept often, only leaving finally when rudely confronted by Reimu and Marisa. Yuuka took to wandering again, visiting the many seasonal flowers of the land once more, changing her appearance to what it currently is, and becoming an infamous resident in Gensokyo. She took to inhabiting the Garden of the Sun in the summer and remaining mostly active whenever it was in full bloom.
(Reimu: Full name is Reimu Hakurei. She is the shrine maiden of the Hakurei Shrine and a practitioner of danmaku. Often duels many residents of Gensokyo especially when they begin stirring up trouble.
Marisa: Full name is Marisa Kirisame. She is a witch, a friend of Reimu's, and also a practitioner of danmaku. Duels out of boredom or to help Reimu and is a little more tomboyish than Reimu. Also, a noted kleptomaniac.)
Much older now, Yuuka was wandering as per usual when she noticed an abnormal growth of flowers. She actually recalls something like this occurring sixty years ago and decides to investigate the cause, encountering many others trying to solve the mystery as well. However, since she is the flower youkai, she's the prime suspect, but with the help of her plants, Yuuka approaches the real culprit.
Komachi Onozuka, the ferryman of dead spirits, has once again been slacking on her job. So many souls were waiting to cross into the land of the dead that they began to possess flowers and make them grow at abnormal rates. The same thing happened in 1945 at the end of World War II, but now, Yuuka's less than amused. A short danmaku battle later and Komachi's boss, Shikieiki Yamaxanadu, shows up to scold the ferryman. Of course, she takes the time to scold Yuuka as well for her constantly teasing both youkai and humans, resulting in another battle. They finish in a short amount of time and Yuuka, victorious, leaves to enjoy the multitude of flowers before they wilt and die.
Personality:
An abnormality even amongst youkai, Yuuka tends to keep to herself. When someone sees her, she's always smiling, but it's quite a deceitful grin. She gets along with others poorly, eliminating anyone that disturbs her when she's amongst her flowers. Fans have given her the title of "U.S.C" or "Ultimate Sadistic Creature" and for good reason. She takes great pleasure in fighting, enjoying long battles and torturing any enemies to a slow and painful death before feeding their remains to her flowers. If she wants to, she will make flowers bloom inside and on their body. Yuuka shows absolutely no fear fighting humans or youkai, furthering her teasing unless she's really enraged.
Still, as repeated before, Yuuka has become a sloth. While not being stated, she's said to be very old, perhaps older than Yukari Yakumo, but that's unknown. Though she loathes humans, she will wander into their flower parlours and shops on occasion. Also, if someone weaker than her comes to the flower field without violent intention, she tends to keep away. Boring battles give her no entertainment so if one doesn't attack her, set up traps, burn her field, or just start causing some form of trouble, she will not attack.
Yuuka can be polite, but only occasionally. To exceptionally strong individuals that have entertained her or bested her in a match, she will actually speak to them without the sadistic snark and challenge them to friendly matches or invite them back to her flower field. When she takes particular interest in someone, she will stalk that person and proceed to make some sort of friendship with them, if not, annoy them until they come looking for her (which most often results in that person's death).
Have you read up on how the game works?:
Yes~! FlamingFerret is the Guide/Plug-in and money is gained by mooching, stealing, working, or free lancing. Oh, also, Vogons suck at poetry and the Improbability Drive is pretty damn improbable.
1st person sample:
[When the guide begins, it appears to be tangled in a hefty web of vines. Across, several aliens are trapped within flower stems and... even one alien has a rose blooming through its stomach. Soft laughter draws attention to a spinning pink parasol.]
Unacceptable~ You expect me to believe my precious Garden is gone? This will not do... not at all...
[There's crying (not a child's fortunately for those who care) followed by a sickening cracking sound. The parasol blocks the blood pouring down overhead.]
Pathetic creatures. You must think they suffered very little~ Ah, I doubt your pain will be enough to make up for them.
[The guide drops from the vine and red flashes as it's caught abruptly by the female. All she does is crack a smile before the feed ends.]
(Of course, this is just a sample... most likely not going to use it.)
3rd person sample:
Well, isn't this familiar? Walking on with no final destination, but now, she cannot hear them calling to her. Her only friends were dead; dead with that rotted world riddled with humans. A very unbefitting death for them, oh indeed. Yes, this wouldn't do, this would NOT be stood for. Yuuka's lips curled as her expression darkened. She could grow new flowers and feed every last living thing here to them. They would be so beautiful and radiant in health; crimson dyeing their lovely little petals...
Her grip tightened on her precious parasol as her grin splitting even wider. Yes... YES! A gorgeous field of red in the moonlight! She started laughing, trembling with excitement, but then calmed herself, letting out several breaths. No, no, she was getting too far ahead of herself. First, her precious sunflowers; she would find a place for the lovely golden sea again. Oh, oh, if she could just find the place where the sun shined the brightest. Where would she find light that wasn't fake? Hmph... so disgusting under these artificial bulbs.
They would not be happy...
Only the best for her comrades...
