So here's pretty much what I did at the Comic Con. It's kind of long, but it's all pretty much there if you'd like to skim through it. You might even find something interesting.....maybe.....
Thursday, July 23: When we got to Comic Con, my little sister and I walked around and tried to familiarize ourselves with the layout of booths this year. I also tried to buy the complete set of +Anima and the volumes I was missing of Skip Beat, but unfortunately I couldn’t find everything I needed. I even checked two different manga places, and I was still missing some volumes. How weird is that?
At around 2, Little Sis and Big Sis went to see the Cartoon Network panel and got a sneak peak at the Adventure Time show coming up soon while Little Bro, my aunt, and I got ready to watch the Psych panel. The Psych panel was pretty awesome, because most of the entire cast was there and talking about the show. It was cool seeing Dulé Hill tap-dance on stage, as well as get a sneak peak at the upcoming season. After the panel, we went to get free merchandise the staff provided for us. We received a Magic Psychic Ball (like a Magic 8 Ball, but a lot cooler), a free Psych T-shirt, and a comic that was okay to read. Unfortunately, we spent too much time standing in line to get the stuff that we weren’t able to make it to the Unlocking Arkham panel that I really wanted to go to. I mean, psychology and Batman villains? That would’ve been an awesome, and totally perfect for me (because I major in Psychology). Big Sis got to go, though, which seems so unfair, but whatever. When the panel finished up and Big Sis rejoined us, we called it a night and went back home.
Friday, July 24: This was the first day I wore my Pucca costume, but I didn’t really get a chance to show it around since I was stuck in line all morning. I really wanted to see the Disney Animation Panel at 12:45 that was being held in the biggest viewing hall, Hall H. And knowing how long the line for that hall could be (because people tend to camp out at the entrance overnight), I got in line right when we got to the convention center. I managed to get in fairly early, but that also meant I had to sit through the first panel at 10, the Warner Bros. panel. It was pretty cool, because I got to see sneak peaks of upcoming movies like Where the Wild Things Are and Sherlock Holmes, and got to see various stars such as Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, Jackie Earle Haley, Megan Fox, Rachel Adams, and Robert Downey, Jr.
After the Warner Bros. panel was the Disney Animation Panel, and it was so worth the wait. I got to see John Lasseter, which was totally awesome, and he talked about upcoming Disney projects. Toy Story 1 and 2 are both being put into 3D and released in theaters together, as a double feature. Beauty and the Beast is also being rereleased in theaters in 3D, which is exciting to me. John Lasseter said that Beauty and the Beast would be released around the same time as Toy Story 1 and 2, and that the Toy Story double feature will be out in October. So I’m hoping that Beauty and the Beast will be out in theaters around my birthday, so that way I can drag my friends and family to see it (heehee). John Lasseter also talked about a new ABC movie coming out in December called Prep and Landing, which is a movie about elves getting houses ready for Santa’s visit. They showed a small trailer for it, and it looked pretty cute, so I’ll be on the lookout for that one. Then they showed some clips of the new traditionally animated movie coming soon, The Princess and the Frog. I am so excited about that movie, I just can’t wait! The animation looks fantastic, and the story is intriguing. Plus, one of the clips they showed was a song by the villain, voiced by Keith David (Goliath from Gargoyles). Goodness, can Keith David sing! It sounded so awesome! And finally, the moment I was really waiting for in the Disney Animation Panel: Hayao Miyazaki! He actually came to Comic Con! How AWESOME is that?! It’s so amazing to see him there, talking about his new movie, Ponyo, which looks like another Miyazaki classic. All in all, the panel was so awesome.
After the Disney panel, I planned to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel (apparently, the Turtles are celebrating 25 years), but I got out of the Disney panel a little late and figured that the line would be too long and I wouldn’t get into the panel anyway. So instead I went shopping for more manga. I ended up getting a series called Captive Hearts, which is a really weird but funny and cute story. It’s totally worth the read, and it’s only five volumes. Not much else after that, so we called it a day and went home.
Saturday, July 25: The second day for my Pucca costume, but there wasn’t really much to do in the morning. We walked around the convention center for a while, and Little Sis and I got to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Smash Up booth where they had the game available for play. We also got to play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled, which is a 3D remake of the old arcade game. Not only was the game redone in 3D graphics, but they also added the voices from the 2003 show while keeping the original elements from the 1987 cartoon. It was so great, and it would’ve been so much cooler if the game was being released on the Wii, and not just on Xbox and PlayStation. Darn it.
Later, when we all got tired and bored, we decided to head to a room and stick around for some panels. We saw a DC Panel where they talked about Green Lantern, and specifically the current story called Blackest Night. Now, I’m not a big Green Lantern fan, but I have to admit that the saga sounded intriguing, especially about the other Lanterns and where they fall on the emotional color spectrum. After that was a spotlight on Ray Bradbury, and it was pretty cool seeing him in person. They showed a video of Ray when he spoke of the Lunar Landing 40 years ago, and they talked about his life and things like that. Seeing him was pretty inspirational…and for some reason makes me want to write a book.
After Ray Bradbury, there were two panels about upcoming shows. The first one was called Human Target, which is about this hit-man who takes on odd jobs and protects clients and stuff like that. The other show is called The Vampire Diaries, and it’s kind of like Twilight actually…But I guess the books it was based off was written before Twilight, so that makes it okay…? Maybe…
After the two panels, it was time for the Myth Busters panel, which was really exciting. Not only were Jamie and Adam there, but so were Grant and Tory. It’s only too bad that Kari wasn’t there too, but she just had a baby, so that’s understandable. The panel was hilarious, as expected, and we got to see some stuff of the upcoming season. It looks very exciting, and it was great seeing Grant and Tory there. The two of them made it extra funny.
Then there was the Watchmen panel, but before that there was a quick panel about the new Batman game coming up, Arkham Asylum, which looks really good, but also rather creepy. It was cool though, because at the quick panel there was both Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Mark Hamill (Joker), and hearing them do the voices of their respective characters was SO cool! Then they showed the director’s cut of Watchmen, but we didn’t really stick around to watch the movie.
Sunday, July 26: The last day of the Comic Con. There wasn’t really much to the day, though, since it was the last day. Mostly we just did some last minute shopping, played Turtles in Time Re-Shelled again, and we actually left pretty early. And that was the end of the Comic Con.
So yeah, that's pretty much it. Cool, huh?
