“Can’t they come up with something more original?” Mamoru muttered, as he stuffed the note inside his bag.

Every Valentine’s Day, he’d get something in his locker: notes, candy, or some small stuffed animal. Honestly, Mamoru was just getting tired of it but this year it didn’t went by without an exception.

Even at the Crown Arcade there was a note waiting for him when Motoki served his usual black coffee. It read:

Meet me at the corner of the arcade once you’re done with drinking your coffee.

Mamoru frowned and decide it was best to ignore it. Minutes past and then hours…it was unusually quiet. It was around 4:30 when he realized that Usagi - no Odango wasn’t there to bicker with him. Her entrances to the arcade was melodramatic so there was no way he could’ve missed it.

He looked at his watch and then outside, where it had began to rain. There were fewer customers now that it was near closing time so he decided to pay for his drink and leave. He walked down and spotted Usagi leaning against the brick wall.

Her hair was wet as were her clothes. “Odango,” Mamoru greeted. When she didn’t look up he frowned. How long had she been in the rain? He looked around and remembered the note he received earlier from Motoki. It couldn’t have been from her could it? What did she want with him? “Oi, Odango Atama,” he tried again.

This seemed to have woken her from her daze. “Mamoru-san?” she asked slowly. “What took you so long?”

“You were the one that gave me the note?” Mamoru asked and frowned when Usagi nodded. “Why didn’t at least you put your name on it?”

“I did draw a bunny rabbit on it,” Usagi explained.

Mamoru sighed inwardly. “So what did you wanted to tell me?” She leaned forward, but tripped. If Mamoru hadn’t caught her she would’ve fell flat on her face. “Usagi,” he said, he could feel her breathing getting heavier and touched her forehead. “Hey, you’re burning up.”

“I’m fine,” she said, feeling a bit lightheaded.

“No your not,” Mamoru said firmly and hoisted her on his shoulders. “Come on, I’ll take you home. Where do you live?”

“Warm,” Usagi mumbled, as she snuggled against his back.

“You’re not helping-” He heard something fall out of Usagi’s pockets and pick it up from the ground. It was a box of candy hearts. Was this what she wanted to give him earlier? Why didn’t she just give it to him at the arcade?

Mamoru sighed and mumbled. “Now where’s the nearest hospital?”
