The soft, silvery glow of the moonlight made her radiant. She stood completely still, a soft breeze gently blowing through her hair and gown, making the soft silk rustle quietly. Even though she looked peaceful, he noted that her stance was defiant as she gazed up at the pale moon. That she would stand her, in his company, on this Earth, was the ultimate defiance of all tradition.

Then she turned to him, her eyes glassy. “Endymion,” she said softly, stepping to his side. He embraced her, letting her rest her head against his chest. His hands lifted to stroke her hair as she softly cried. “It’s not fair.”

“Serenity,” he murmured soothingly. “There are many things in the world that aren’t fair.”

She looked up at him, angry, almost betrayed. “Endymion,” she returned, “how can you say that?”

“It’s true,” he answered, truthfully. “That doesn’t mean we have to like it, however.”

Serenity stubbornly nodded. She glanced back up at the silvery moon. “No, we don’t, do we?”
