ARG NO FAIR

I really, REALLY have to learn to stop being such a good worker. I keep thinking that by being a good worker, I will get all the really cushy, "ya dun wrry just relax" jobs. Instead, I seem to be the go-to person for the, "We need you to start this instant and finish yesterday, so drop anything remotely resembling free time" jobs. And now they're ( Read more... )

Ah, yeah, I can see why that would be a bit of a turnoff. That was the only story I was aware of and didn't realize they were originally implying something else. Although I suppose I can understand why an elf hundreds of years old would be somewhat reluctant to enter a relationship with a teenager, so some of the silent longing makes sense. And word on the tragic romance, not to mention the fact that Jaina will die a long time before Kael does.

Yes, Vashj is totally cool. I loved how, while it was clear that she was cunning, evil, and manipulative, she was also genuinely helpful. Yes, I'm sure she was doing all that to get Kael'thas on side, but there's something almost, I don't know, "nice" about her. She seems like the type who wouldn't backstab you, because it's much more useful to help you out and end up with a new ally. If that makes sense. I can see now why the whole Captain Planet villainy thing in WoW is so painful because it makes her evil for evil's sake... I see her as much more the kind to hand over some sort of nice power/home/whatever to the local Broken and then sweetly encourage them to help out Illidan as some sort of repayment.

I honestly don't know WHY Akama randomly turns on Illidan. He's 'omgevil'. Uh. How did you miss that, Akama? Though, they've taken Illidan in a retarded direction. As far as I always knew, Illidan did what he did, including turning to the dark side, because of a greater, overreaching desire to protect his people. He and Malfurion are more alike than they realize, they've both made hard decisions to help their people. Illidan's methods just took him down a different path. On that note, Illidan does not support the Burning Legion. He's a demon HUNTER. He's probably spent more time murdering demons than anyone else. Did he work for Kil'Jaeden? Yes, but only because he was pissed off about the whole Arthas thing (Illidan vs Arthas, the 'No you can't!' 'Yes I CAN' fight that doomed the world...).

As far as I'm concerned, Illidan's main goal in Outland presently is to hide from K'J because he fucked up, again, kill demons and support the allies he's garnered. The Broken have no reason to turn on Illidan, he saved their lives, and protects them from the Fel Horde, and yet, somehow in WoW, Illidan has the Fel Horde working for him, and enslaved the Broken. The sense, it is lacking. :(

I expected to see Vashj guiding the Broken, not enslaving them, to be honest.

GOD YES. The whole Akama/Broken thing was absolutely ridiculous. Illidan saved their lives and seemed all happily set to have his big happy broken/naga/blood elf family, where did this slavery and Akama betrayal come from?

And thank you for basically TOTALLY laying out my problems with the way they took Illidan's character. No, he is not a "nice guy", but he's not exactly pure malevolent evil either. As far as I can tell, his overriding concern is to be left alone to develop his *magic* power without having to deal with pissy demons or brothers showing up to cramp his style. He seems genuinely appreciative and respectful of his allies, and only seems to unleash his anger on demons or those who have hurt him directly *cough*Maiev*cough* Frankly, if I were writing WoW's plot, they'd all be back in Orgrimmar having tea with Thrall and Jaina Illidan's faction would be separate and playable, with choice of naga, blood elf, broken, and either demons or fel orcs I'd have Illidan in some sort of tentative alliance with the Naaru against the Burning Legion... an uneasy pact, to be sure, but nonaggression of some kind. It doesn't make sense otherwise... why would Illidan, who specifically wants to hide and be left alone, decide to randomly declare war on his neighbors? Oh right, he's "insane" after his fight with Arthas. Well here's a question for the ages... if Kael'thas specifically lost faith in Illidan because of this madness, why the hell wouldn't he go to A'dal instead of Kil'jaeden? Oh Blizz, I wish I knew how to quit you. Seriously, I wish I could. >:(

And yes, I agree, Vashj would be guiding the Broken and they would all be fighting against the Burning Legion. Except that that wouldn't guarantee us our shiny farking raid bosses, would it? -_-

Though I just got the most insane idea I've ever had. What if A'dal and the Shattrath faction were actually Burning Legion in disguise? That after the player downs Illidan and all the other raid bosses, suddenly A'dal pops out of nowhere and is like, "Wow, thank you for buying into all those sob stories we had about Illidan being a meanyhead. You've now taken out the greatest threat to us in this world. Thanks, noobs!" I would laugh my ass off if that were the case. :P
