I think the people from Ocean have been stalking me the past few weeks. As soon as I finish a script and do the final check and polish, my Gmail lights up like a Christmas tree with another translation for the OTHER series I'm working on. So I get working on that one right away, hand it in... only to get another translation from the FIRST series. I think they're poised outside my 5th story window, with binoculars, saying, "... yes, yes, she's saving the .doc file, she's hitting "send", RELEASE THE HOUNDS."
Or at least, that's what I hope they do. Because that would make my life sound cool and mysterious. ;-)
Anyway, I am in a ludicriously good mood because
kastra has been visiting for a few days! A fun time was had by all (I hope ;-)), and we did a lot of fun stuff, such as:
- visit Book Off downtown, where we got to put our noses in the air and complain snottily about how used Japanese books in Vancouver are more expensive than new books in Japan, fwah fwah BACK IN MY JET DAYS FWAH FWAH. Then we bought stuff anyways. ;-)
- went to Tsunami Sushi, the rotating sushi bar where all the dishes are on little boats. Deep and meaningful conversation centered around whether the place was shut down during that drought in Vancouver a few years back, and where the bloody hell did all the gyoza go?
- split up for a day: I got most of my scripts done while
kastra wandered off to Richmond to go shopping. A great plan, as it resulted in the purchase and subsequent consumption of mochi.
- introducing her to the wonders of the Wii. Rayman ensured that our arms dropped off, but it was worth it to convert another non-gamer to the altar of Wii.
- head down to Granville Island for breakfast by the waterfront, followed by shopping for silk yarn for
kastra. Who knew silkworms were such productive little jerks? ;-)
- rampaged through Metrotown, including the obligatory visit and subsequent pillaging of Sakura Media. It's possible that I may have possibly maybe sort of bought a lot of English manga and a wallscroll showing that gorgeous Cloud and Sephiroth picture on the cover of FFVII Ultimania. Possibly.
- met an awesome new friend in that same store, who then led us on a voyage of discovery to Crystal Mall where I saw more models/figurines than I would know what to do with. Damnit, and my display case is already full of figurines...
- ended up buying and watching Chinese DVDs of both Death Note movies. The first was subtitled in English, the second was not. Watching the first movie again with subtitles made everything soooo much clearer, although I was surprised about how much I actually caught the first time. The second, however, was much more complicated and confusing, and the last few plot twists went winging over our heads. If anyone knows the significance of 13 days, do tell. o_O We did, however, conclude one thing: there must be something in the leather of the Death Note that turns anyone who gets it into a complete rampaging psychopath. o_O
All in all, a fantastic time, one I can't wait to repeat. It was so awesome to reminisce over Japan with
kastra, and we both agree that we're going back (albeit for different durations). Hopefully she'll end up moving closer to me someday. ^_^
I had a fandom rant to post, but frankly, it's getting so long that I'm going to make it another post (poor
kastra already knows what it's about, seeing as I showed her the offending manga this morning). In the meantime, peace. ^_^
EDIT: Meme time!
One ganked from EVERYWHERE:
Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal pseudo-canon.
One ganked from
glorious and
firefly99Comment with two characters I write, and I'll write you their first kiss. It may be just an idea, a sentence, or an entire fic.
