Canon Resource Links:
--Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junjou_Romantica - Brief character descriptions of Misaki as well as his boyfriend Usami, big brother Takahiro, and others who are relevant to Misaki’s story.
--Junjou Wiki: http://junjouromantica.wikia.com/wiki/Junjou_Romantica_Wiki - Not much more info, but helpful I guess.
--My Anime List: http://myanimelist.net/character/6037/Misaki_Takahashi - A short blurb on Misaki’s character, but of course I’ll be going into more detail in the app, so probably a bit useless.
--My own input: This is a BL series don’t judge me! I don’t think it needs much more introduction than that, but I’m willing to go into canonical detail if my links don’t seem to be enough, so feel free to ask and I’ll post more!

Personality:
Misaki is your typical college kid-cheerful and optimistic. He’s also genuinely kind and tries to be a good kid. He shows respect where respect is due, like a typical Japanese youth, and has always expected to live a normal, average life. Despite not having parents, Misaki has grown up without large mental scarring or anything of that sort. He would rather not be a burden on others.

Misaki is also quite lazy when it comes to studying. He’s not very book smart, but doesn’t seem to have any urge to change this. He prefers to read manga over books and his favorite is a “manly” cooking manga called The Kan. He idolizes cool, good-looking men, probably because his owns looks and personality are pretty average.

Misaki is generally okay with being normal, but his boy-next-door image is completely ruined by Akihiko “Usagi-san” Usami, Misaki’s older, over-protective boyfriend. He never expected to fall in love with a man though he’s never been in love before, so it’s difficult to say if he was really straight or not before meeting Akihiko. Still, it doesn’t make him any less flaily when it comes to dealing with his current relationship. He gets embarrassed and blushy at the merest flirtation or touch. He’s kind of old-fashioned in his views and likes to keep all PDA to a minimum. Nothing pisses him off more than Akihiko’s grabby tendencies. But despite this, Misaki has the mentality of a romantic. Not that he acts romantic in any way, but he has lofty views; he’s idealistic when it comes to things like ‘love’ and what it means to ‘be a man.’ When he thinks about love, he expects rosey colors and warm, fuzzy feelings, holding hands, sweet moments, and all that jazz.

He also has difficultly coming to grips with his sexuality. He’s adamant that he’s not gay. He doesn’t love guys, really people, this he swears! But he can be pretty stubborn about others things too. When Akihiko gets too protective or gives him silly tasks to complete he’ll outright refuse to go along with him. Since Akihiko is also a very stubborn person their household has a lot of shouting and arguments. But in the end, Misaki will eventually fold to Akihiko’s will. As much as he hates to admit it out loud, he really does love Akihiko.

His love may not generally come out into the open just any day, but when someone talks bad about someone Misaki cares about he’ll fly into a rage! He’s not about to let anyone badmouth his friends, family or Akihiko. In other words, Misaki is incredibly loyal. If he’s coming to someone’s defense he’ll stand his ground, no matter how intimidated he normally feels around his opponent. Misaki may always champion his friends, but that only extends to when someone openly says something mean about them. He certainly makes no qualms about calling his own brother an airhead or trying to call Akihiko to order for being lazy. He’s actually a very judgmental person himself. But unless he feels close to someone, he’s usually tactful enough to keep his opinions to himself.

And last, but not least, Misaki is incredibly self-conscious of all his actions. Sometimes it takes a while before he realizes what he’s just said, but when he analyzes his actions he often regrets what he’s done. If he feels he’s done something to make someone hate him he will generally run from the issue for a while, stew on the problem itself, think about what he can do to fix it, and then finally address the issue. By that time, he’s convinced himself that whatever the problem is, it must be his fault and he promises to do everything in his power to fix it. Saying he will do anything seems a bit selfless, but actually his actions are pretty selfish since it’s really for his sake that he worries. He doesn’t want to be alone or left behind.

Samples
First Person Sample:
[The video focuses in on a piece of rumpled paper, on which someone has drawn a vaguely human-shaped object with crayon. Anyone who is watching might not even be able to tell it should be a person.]

Has anyone seen this person? It’s Usami Akihiko-san. [Misaki moves the camera feed up to his face. He looks a bit harried, but he’s obviously trying very hard to sound unconcerned.]

He’s lazy and selfish and has no common sense, so someone needs to take care of him. If you happen to catch him, make sure to tell me. But don’t get too close! He’s kind of a pervert. Ah! But he can be a good person on… on occasion! Um…

[Misaki looks to the side, eyes downcast, and his voice drops.] Please tell me he’s okay.

Third Person Sample:
Misaki could feel the veins in his forehead pulsing as he got out his map once again to check his progress. As a kid born and raised in Tokyo, the only map he’d ever had been able to get down was the subway map. He’d never needed to check one for all his usual hot spots, but here the world was totally new. But why the hell did it have to be so big?

“It never took this long in the old game,” Misaki griped, pouring over the unfamiliar names and landscape. It had been so easy back home. He could sit on the couch and have battled his way through the first few towns within a couple hours. He stopped for a moment, considering. “Well, I guess it might have taken days for the little guy on the screen to get from town to town.”

Misaki scratched his head. He’d never been any good at mental math. “If it took two days just to get this far down the route, but only a couple minutes in game that means… Gahhh! Being a Pokémon trainer is hard!”

“Suuun~” sang the small grass Pokemon, perching on his shoulder. Misaki batted at the Sunkern but she steadfastly refused to move away. Rubbing against his cheek, she chirped happily. “Sun sun sunkern!”

“Sunkern, I’m trying to get us to Violet! You’re blocking my sunlight!” The Sunkern plopped down in front of him, right in the middle of his map. Misaki leaned back, arms crossing, one eyebrow twitching in annoyance. “That’s not helpful either. You’re as easy-going as Usagi-san.”

“Kern?” The yellow and brown striped Pokémon blinked back at him questioningly. Misaki only sighed, offering a weak smile. Truth was, his thoughts had been less on finding town and more on the man he’d left back home. Was he eating properly? Was Aikawa-san checking up on him regularly? That guy was just too helpless without Misaki to keep him in order.

Misaki’s smile faded and the scene in front of him disappeared completely. He’d been stuck in this place for over a week now. Gone, without even having left a note. If he was honest with himself, Usami had been living alone all those years before he had even come along. It made him wonder… Does Usagi-san miss me at all?

A warm presence against his hand brought Misaki back from his thoughts. Sunkern was cuddling against his side, her big black eyes shining. Was she worried about him?

Misaki laughed, forcing a smile back onto his face. “It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it, Sunkern. Let’s work on getting to Violet City, okay?” He scrunched his face up in concentration and leaned back down towards the map. It wouldn’t do to have his own Pokémon worried about him. He was the trainer, the responsible one. It was his job to take care of Sunkern while he was here. Usagi-san would be fine. And Misaki would get back home someday… somehow.
