It was all dark and cold, Fuma had curled up in his bed, keeping warm and trying to shake off the reality that he was alone. He was all alone. There’s no one at home on Christmas, no one is going be home. His parents were busy with their work, and both of them are now at the other side of the world signing contracts that are much more important than him. It was so silent that he can almost hear the snow falling on the window outside.
He could almost hear the snow knocking on his window. He can hear, wait. Fuma quickly sat up and turned to the window, only to see a boy around his age squatting at the ledge waving at him happily. The boy was dressed thinly and without thinking, Fuma had immediately opened the window to pull the boy in. “Are you cold? Oh no, you’re freezing,” he had went into a rant, fearing for the other boy who seems to not mind but continue to smile at him. His panic only stopped when he felt a freezing hand on his wrist, “Don’t worry, I’m not cold at all.”
Fuma had looked at the other boy in shock, questioning the sanity of the boy. “I’m Kento, a snow fairy!” There was a grin on his lips, and it was only then that Fuma notices what Kento was wearing. He was done in silvery white; his accessories were all in the forms of snowflakes that varied in size and patterns. It was as if that Kento sensed doubt in Fuma, and he demanded Fuma to hold his hand out. The boy had shivered at the touch of the snow fairy, and with a twirl of Kento’s finger, a tiny snow Christmas tree appeared in his palm.
“Do you believe me now?” With a nod, Kento was satisfied and with a twirl, Fuma saw ice forming decorations around his room. At the corner, there was an ice Christmas tree decorated with a variety of snowflakes. Around this room, there were icicle streamers. And all of a sudden, he could feel the festive season.
He wasn’t sure when it was but he was swept away by Kento’s personality. Compared to the image of a snow fairy he had, cold, composed and strict, Kento was the exact opposite. He was cheerful, loud, clumsy and most of all someone that bears his heart out to everyone he meets. Fuma was shocked that they started to talk about things like they’ve known each other for years. They had devoured the Christmas snacks, and had piping hot chocolate with tons of marshmallows to follow. It had come to a point where Fuma didn’t feel that Kento’s body temperature was cold.

It was as if everything was a dream, Fuma didn’t know when he fell asleep but waking up, he called out to Kento, only to be faced with silence. There was no one in his room, but he knew that last night was real. The Christmas tree at the corner was still there, as if it was just built, so are the other decorations. Wrappers from the snacks they ate were still in the bin, and the mugs that held their hot chocolate were still on the side table. Sitting up he found a note on his desk.
‘Merry Christmas, Fuma.
You might not remember me from the past, but that is alright. One day I would be able to tell you what happened, how I know about you, and maybe; just maybe your past life if you believe it. I will always be by your side, even if you can’t see me.
We shall meet again next year, my love.
Someone of your past,
Kento’
It was signed off with a single snowflake and before it melted in the warm sunlight, he could swear that he saw his name in the design of the snowflake.
