last week at my volunteer school i took my saxophone! it was so much fun! i went in, and the usual business of playing and drawing was going on... so i walked around and said "bellisima" a few times. i was thankful it was a bit cold so the kids weren't outside cuz i was getting sick of sitting outside and not doing much. one of the kids (giulia, of course) asked me to read a book to her (allora!), so i tried doing that, but luckily she got bored quickly and moved on to something else. it was i think pocahantas, so i wasn't having much luck. and it was really long... mamma mia. anyway, finally antonia (miestra) gathered up the kids and had them "reordinare" and then sit in their semi-circle. once they were here she told them i was a "musicianista" or something, and i was going to play the saxophone for them!! yay! hehe, they were excited. then the second class came in and sat on the floor in front of me, so i had this audience of four year old italians! i felt bad cuz i had only taken "itsy- bitsy spider" so i didn't know how i was going to entertain them for long... but it turned out wonderfully.
luckily heather had written out itsy- bitsy for me, though, yikes. so i told them i was going to play the song we had taught them before, and the teacher wanted me to sing it so they could remember.. so i did that... then i played it. it was so cute, right when i played about fifteen of the kids covered their ears and the teachers were all "mamma mia, che bellisima!! che bella!" ecc. so cute! they were so happy i played for them! i wanna do it again! then, after itsy, antonia asked me to play something else for them... anything. so i told her i would play a piece of a song they might know, "in the mood." they liked that, too. good thing cuz it's the only song i have memorized! after that she asked if i could play so they could dance! luckily i'm not as afraid of what four year olds think as i am of 20 year olds, so i just went for it. it was so cute, they all jumped up and started dancing to my random improvisations. and that was all.
ahh! it was so cute and fun! i think i'll take it again during our last week or something, it's so much fun!!!! hehe...
