Fear Particles? I haven't encountered them myself, but I've read the reports.

They're a pain to fight with conventional weapons.

That said, apparently they have an averse reaction to the fields generated by an AS ECS system. It seems to prevent them from reforming, as they do when destroyed by most weapons.
