I just want to make a quick movie recommendation to everyone! I just finished watching Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill, a really interesting documentary about Mark Bittner and how he cared for a flock of wild parrots in San Francisco. It's not your typical cookie-cutter documentary; it really shows how some of the individual parrots have real personalities. They're so cute and charming. ^^ And Bittner's own life story is pretty interesting too. The documentary doesn't tell his biography or anything; it just details how he got to be interested in the parrots and it's really inspiring.
I'll admit that I almost cried at the end of the movie because the relationship between Bittner and the parrots were so close. He really says some touching things about animals having their own thoughts and how we're all just part of a whole. I liked the story he told to illustrate this -- a Zen master had been looking at a waterfall and noticed that at the top was a river that went over a cliff. When the water from the river spilled over the edge, it separated into individual droplets... but when it came to the bottom of the cliff, everything merged into the river again. Very inspiring~~
So yes. :D I rented the copy at Blockbuster so I can't imagine it'd be too difficult for anyone here to find if you're interested. ^^
