Me and V. had been discussing film literacy and the fact that there are so many books written about it. However everybody has their own notes and watches films differently.
Those are mine.
As an example basic things:
Soviet Montage: Battleship Potemkin (1925) - Sergei Eisenstein - montage, study how A+B=C
Bicycle Thief (1948) - Vittorio De Sica - Neo-Realism, reaction to Hollywood and montage, long shots, study camera movement and relationship between time and space
Breathless- Jean Luc Godard - breaking of the 4th wall, breaking 180 degree rule, editing style to match character
Jules and Jim, François Truffaut - study use of freeze frames and constant camera motion in relation to characters, point of view
Jacques Tati films to study sound - especially Mr. Hulot’s Holiday, Mon Oncle , Playtime
