i left for action city about 7:30 fri night. it started to rain and rained most of the way down, but stopped at the cowley line. the stupid exit at el dorado north was all jacked up. got there about 11:30.
sometime during the night watson found a skunk :-( between that and rolling in dead things he was stinky dog all weekend. he still smells a little despite the bath.
sat was pretty lazy. walked with cale beli and chandler to the river. tried to get chandler to do a rain dance with me but she wouldn't. on the way down it started to sprinkle, then quit. caleb went back to the house and grandma assured him that if it started to rain heavy she would come get us.
it was a very snakey weekend :-) at the mud hole i saw something moving in the water and saw it was a snake feeding. we watched for a few minutes then it swam to the tall grass. a few minutes later i thought i saw a smaller snake swim out.
we just got down to the gravel bar when it started to rain. we rushed up the road and stayed under the trees to keep dry. just about the time mom showed up the rain was starting to make it thru. we get back home and it stops. after lunch i took a bait bucket and net (i think santa will get the shed a new net!) and walked down. got lots of tadpoles, some minnows and several crawdads--some eatin' size. i thought i'd tempt the rain and told mom i would go fishing.
since the flooding last spring there is a nice new long gravel bar with a nice little backwash that was full of minnows. got my lines cast and gave thanks and praise to the river. i happened to look directly across the river and saw a doe and her fawn. he was not very spotty. for a brief second they looked at me and then the doe turned and high-tailed it (or should i saw white-tailed it) up the hill. i could see their tails thru the woods as they headed south and east. in about half an hour it started to sprinkle then started to rain. it rained off and on the rest of the afternoon. i was out about 2 hrs. it was very peaceful. i could see the rain moving in from the west across the water. it was interesting. the fish were fucking with me. they would bite but weren't stickin' to the hook :-( i thought i was going to get one, couldn't tell if it was a cat or a carp but it managed to break loose before i got it in. the carps i could see feeding up close and they would wave with their fins kinda like the whales in the pictures ;-) during a light spot in the rain, i saw movement in the water and at first thought it was a carp. turned out to be a snake swimming straight toward me. he came up to the edge of the water, opened his mouth and paused, then flipped back into the water. the herons perched on the dead limbs of a big tree looked like cartoon vultures. found a soft turtle shell. mom came down to get me just as i was about to start getting ready to leave. she thought i was crazy, but it was very cool to watch the rain on the river. one time when it rained pretty heavy, the way the water looked and the splashes caused by water hitting water creating a low haze was very cool. i feel very peaceful there. walking up and down the gravel bar looking for fossils, interesting rocks or other treasures. fishing or watching nature.
after i showered it stopped raining but by feasting time it was raining pretty hard. vic and judy showed up and i thought they were expecting us to take ribs out to them in their car they took so long getting out. judy was so funny. they brought the cooler up and then judy lifted her shirt to show her belly and whipped out a bunch of birthday cards. much feasting on good food. my mom makes the best potato salad.
caleb and chandler stayed the night 'cause mom and dad had a date (because aunt teri was there). there was much playing and teasing this morning to pass the rainy day away. it cleared up after lunch and i left a little after 2. stopped by k&r's house saw marley for a few minutes and headed home.
while i was gone, larryville got a
bunch!!!!ofrain!!!!!!! here are pics of the flooding.
the evening has been spent doing laundry and watching E3.
