Saturday, What a day.

*sighs* What to talk about. Today was okay as days go. Got up went to work. I had planned to be out early and on my way home before too long, but that didn’t seem to happen. My cashier had car trouble and was four and a half hours late. Which leaves me running the register for seven and a half hours. Bleah!

Have I ever mentioned that I hate running the register? It’s not the register itself that I object to, it is dealing with the people of Danville, that I don’t like. Now don’t get me wrong, there are some really decent people in Danville, but they are either the exception to the rule, or the annoying ones just seem to be a larger percentage of the population then they really are. See, I have come to the conclusion that the inhabitants of Danville, were created so that inbred rednecks would have someone they can look down on. They are some of the most ignorant and rudest people I have ever had the misfortune to deal with, and I was lost in Manhattan once (in a tractor-trailer no less).

At any rate when running the register, there are two types of customers that really get on my nerves. I refer to them as the Taxpayers, and the Bankers.

Taxpayers is my term for people who play the lottery. The term comes from a quote I read somewhere that defined the lottery as a tax on stupidity. After having sold lottery for almost two years now, I have come to firmly believe that statement. And it seems the more money someone is willing to spend on the lottery the more stupid the person is.

Bankers on the other hand are people who just want change for large bills. Some will just come in and ask for change for a twenty. I have a personal policy, I don’t make change for twenty dollar bills without a purchase. For one thing I cannot keep twenty dollar bills in the register as it is against company policy, so after making change I immediately have to make a safe drop. (Which is drop the bill into the safe.) Then of course this takes smaller bills out of my drawer that I need for actual customers. This is a bit of a pain in the ass to have to deal with for someone whom I am not making any profit from. The other variation is the ones who come in and grab something small like a thirty scent pack of gum, and want to pay for it with a twenty dollar bill. Again this is annoying for the above mentioned reasons. Now, not everybody who pays with a twenty dollar bill is considered a banker by me. Some of them honestly have nothing smaller. But you can usually tell the bankers, as you can watch them sort through their fives and ones before handing you a twenty for their dollar twenty five purchase.

So needless to say being on the register for any length of time quickly turns my mood sour. Being stuck on it when I am not supposed to be very quickly will drive away any vestiges of a good day.

Anyway, the other problem with my cashier being late is that I cannot count the deposit until I have someone to run the register. I cannot transmit my paperwork until I have counted and entered the deposit. The paperwork has to be transmitted by 11am. So, a late cashier means my paperwork is late. Which makes me look bad. Of course things happen, and sometimes a person is just late, and nothing can be done about it. But it is still highly annoying.

On the bright-side it was kind of slow this morning. Now this is bad in that it means my sales will be down, and they were just starting to look like they should. But on the upside, it allowed me to catch up most of the stuff I wanted to get caught up. So in the end the only really bad thing about today is being stuck on the register for seven and a half hours. Other then that today was not an all bad day. At least as far as work goes.

Other then that it was a pretty okay day. Of course since my days seem to revolve around my job anymore . . . but I’d rather not think about that.

fasmart, work
