As the entire world probably knows by now, given the internets are aflame with it, one of the few late-term abortion providers in the US was shot to death in church yesterday.

It's the wrong time of month for this sort of news to hit, so I am very angry. I would be angry anyway, but my rationality is jacked down several critical notches, to the ( Read more... )

Thank you. That's much better than I could have said it.

(And this is coming from a woman who had a life-threatening pregnancy and chose to go through with it . . . but with the full knowledge that it was a CHOICE that I was making, I wasn't forced into it. And thankfully my amazing daughter and I both came out okay. But I have *infinite* sympathy for women who know that their babies *can't* be okay, or who feel like the risk to their own life is too much to bear.)

I'm going to go read that article, and I'm going to cry buckets -- I always do. It's such a heartbreaking decision. The only people who think it's "easy" are the people who have no idea what it entails for the person going through with it.

**hugs**

For Planned Parenthood at least, one can enter a person and address to be notified of one's donation in memory of the deceased. My work-based google-fu is weak, but if someone else were able to come up with an address for either Randall Terry ("George Tiller was a mass-murderer. We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God. I am more concerned that the Obama Administration will use Tiller's killing to intimidate pro-lifers into surrendering our most effective rhetoric and actions. Abortion is still murder.") or Terry's org Operation Rescue, I'd be overjoyed to make a donation for either of those in memory of Dr Tiller.

(The donation will be going through regardless. I'd just prefer to add that additional bit of bite.)

B'lieve they changed their name to Operation Save America, and their corporate headquarters are at

P.O. Box 740066
Dallas, TX 75374

So you could probably donate in their name. *grin*

Every once in a while I'll see some protesters out in front of our local Planned Parenthood facility. If I can afford to do so, I then stop long enough to make a donation to the facility, always thanking the protesters for reminding me to donate.

Being pregnant right now, I couldn't read the whole thing.

Being someone whose life was saved by terminating a pregnancy, I'm nonetheless right there with you. (And being pregnant is like being PMS-y).

...that is a very odd icon for a pregnant woman. I take it I'm missing context or something.

It's a pregnant lady being attacked by a giant version of one of those plastic belt loop things that were big in the 80s.

I'm watching, waiting to see one of those again. I'm a grad student, and all the undergrads seem to think that 80s fashion is the shiznit. I cringe, thinking I hated all this stuff the first time around...

(Moon Boots have been replaced with Uggs... I'm not sure this is an improvement.)

Things like this make me terribly, terribly glad that I do not live in America.

Thank you, Ursula. More people need to hear stories like that woman's. I had no idea about how malformed the partial-birth abortion ban really was, and now I disagree with it even more.

Pro-life should mean pro-every-life, even those you don't personally agree with. If abortion is murder, then what is it when you kill a fully-grown adult out of malice?

Agreed. I knew the American right wing were twisting words with the whole 'partial birth' thing, but I didn't realise it was quite so deceitful...
