The dream logic that would have kicked in for me about there would have said, "Well, if you find one earring and it turns you into the animal, and you have to have both earrings to turn back, it's simple! All you have to do is loose the original earring!" Then, of course, I would probably end up with the curse of having an excellent memory in terms of always knowing where that ~one~ earring was...
Have you read 'Never Let Me Go' by Kazuo Ishiguro recently? It has mention of drawings of clockworky/spring-filled sort of animals, if I remember correctly. Always wished it also contained pictures.
Speaking of books, I'm enjoying Nurk quite a lot, and thinking I should be taking it into my local independent children's bookshop and suggesting they stock it, although import taxes and stuff may prohibit it. :(
also.. it doesn't seem like it should really be called "visual" if its just in your head... I mean there should be a specific term for brain images that don't actually exist anywhere. Brainsuals? Brainmages? mindmages? mindsuals?
