I kind of surprised myself by writing this thing. I mean, I don't post publicly in forever, and when I do it's about BUZZFEED? Who freaking cares, right? But I don't think I was just writing about Buzzfeed.
I guess the last few years have kind of shoved my nose into the dirt, and I've had to get out there and mix it up with the world more than I had in a long time. And it's made me see a really stark difference between what I call the "lol" people and the non-lollers. I can be shallow and silly, but there's a time and a place and when it crosses over into callousness or meanness I have a big problem with it.
Every now and then you post something about how you got involved in some little street interaction or altercation, something that would've sent me scurrying but where you stuck around and got your mitts dirty and did the right thing. It makes me feel like some delicate little princess in a tower, by comparison. So, I'm not claiming to be some hero of the downtrodden, or anything of the sort. But if life is a continuum, with the hard-workin', broke proles at one end and Paris Hilton at the other, I may dress like Paris but my heart will always, always be with the folks who are chasing the 7 AM bus.
