So last Friday, the week when an entire project got cancelled and we lost 5 people to cost-cutting, my officemates and I went out to Dampa for a long overdue celebration because we got raises or promoted earlier this summer. Too soon! Too late! Too ironic!
Then when we came in to work today, we get the news that 4 more consultants' contracts were not getting renewed because the annual project that they've been working on -- the project that even got an award last year and was again upgraded this year -- was being downsized to the two staff members to which it was assigned and just 1 consultant, pick one, Sophie, just pick 1.
Not even an award will help any of us now!
Meanwhile, my brother is telling me all confident that the rent from the Gingerbread Houses will bring in enough to cover the bills and I'm like, You know that if we do manage to rent out all units, the rent only adds up to what I used to earn in 2005 and we haven't lived like it's 2005 for a long long time.
Also, aside from the fact that the units are only half-occupied, the imaginary rent from your imaginary renters will still need to pay for the very real mortgage, which is already 1/3 of the pie.
