Application and Characters

The Application ProcessApproving people on the basis of their characters is a little superfluous in a game where your character is most likely going to change and no one can anticipate what the plot will require or prohibit. As such, in place of a traditional approval system, we'll be using a peer-review system. You are, de-facto, accepted, and ( Read more... )

Name: Yama
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Character concept: A goofy firebender and jazz musician who is eager to show others benders are not bad and a counterbalance to his more dour and jealous younger brother.
Appearance: Kind of short, with amber eyes and short black hair. Likes to wear pretty practical grey and red fairly modern clothing and flashy red boots. PB is Rin Okumura from Blue Exorcist.
Personality: Yama is a cheerful, rather silly young man. Although a firebender, he has never received very formal training, and is thus more relaxed than one would typically expect. Coming from a large family has made him very eager to impress and stand out, and he does so by showing off however he can. Yama will inevitably end up cracking jokes and making forced sarcastic comments in any situation, trying to pass himself off as the coolest guy around. He may not be, but as long as eyes are on him and he can at least act like everything is under control, he'll keep this up. His bending, though untrained, is another outlet, and gives Yama an excuse to try and convince others that benders are good, trustworthy people. His final outlet (and source of money) is music- Yama, along with a group of friends, are in one of Republic City's fledgling jazz bands. What he lacks in talent he makes up for in enthusiasm, which he certainly has in spades.
History:
The elder son in a family of four children, one mother, and a cormorant-dog that nobody can agree on the name of, Yama has not always lived in Republic City. His parents were a waterbender and firebender caught in a whirlwind romance, frowned upon by their families but united in passion. This lasted until his father's untimely death- with the loss of their breadwinner, the family decided to pull up stakes and start anew in the big city, where their mother's nonbender brother lived. Once there, Yama, his brother Huan, and his sisters (c/o Jun) set to work finding work in order to support their mother and uncle.
Other:
Yama's crippling weakness is beautiful people with tragic pain in their life and/or horribly misguided beliefs. He inevitably wants to fix them, preferrably by showing them the power of love. This is inevitably a disaster whenever it happens.
Huan, Yama's younger brother, who is not a bender, is also included as an NPC under the umbrella of this account. He's sour and resentful of his position as both a younger sibling and a nonbender in a family full of them and frequently makes his voice heard as only a crabby teenager can. Regardless of this, Yama is still fond of him and his martial arts and musical skill, and drags Huan everywhere.

Very good character profile you've got there. I find his need to fix people a very believable flaw (one I have myself, actually). Great job!
