I don't start work til three tomorrow, no substituing, so tomorrow will be a good day.
So here is another fic prompt fill, because I can't seem to stop myself. :)
"You guys seriously need to do something about the obvious sexual tension that's been keeping us all on edge for months. Seriously, I want to go back to the days when I used to go to sleep without the question of when you're going to hook up being the last thought in my mind!"
As a united Glee Club, they honestly think Puck and Rachel are being beyond ridiculous about the dance they do around each other and their very blatant feelings for one another. Rachel confessed to Santana who told Brittany who told Tina who let it slip to Artie and so on and so forth that when she broke up with Finn, she thought maybe something would happen with Puck.
It wasn’t exactly a secret that things with Finn weren’t working out, and things between her and Puck just never really seemed to be over, from the way they touched unnecessarily during different performances and practices, to the lingering glances between them when they weren’t together, to the constant texting even from across the room. (Rachel’s not discreet in the slightest when she receives a text message.)
And the way she reacts when he says something blatantly sexual to her shows that she’s not actually embarrassed or annoyed by the lines he’s spewing, but intrigued, hopeful, and undoubtedly turned on.
The thing is, if this was a new development, and had only been going on for a few weeks or something, it might be okay. It’d still be entertaining. But this is beginning to feel like a ridiculous television show where they’re all on edge waiting for their favourite underdog and random surprising couple who isn’t actually at all surprising once you think about it to get together, and they’re holding out until the season finale just to piss people off. This dance between Puck and Rachel (one step forward, five steps back, no lie) had been going on for months, and it had lost it’s entertainment value to the point where now it was just downright frustrating as hell, and they were all placing bets as to when it would actually happen.
(Mike picked never, and Matt’s beginning to wonder if maybe he had the right idea.)
Even Kurt, who doesn’t care about anything related to Rachel Berry now that Finn’s single again and well over his feelings for her, is beginning to get frustrated and making comments about locking them in closets/locker rooms/the gym/anywhere with a door and a lock and no way out just until they finally beat their heads together and work out their sexual tension in all the right ways.
Matt’s hoping Quinn’s prediction of graduation day doesn’t come true, either, because that would be unsatisfactory too, and he may actually legit kill both of them if they make Glee Club wait that long literally suffocating in all the sexual tension that abounds when Rachel and Puck are in the same room together, and everyone else can’t help but watch.
Finn placed his bet on one month after the demise of his and Rachel’s relationship, and he came pretty damn close. There was a dance at school, fundraiser for non-funded activities such as Glee Club, and Puck found himself going because he didn’t want Rachel going with some other douche. (Not that he said that out loud, but Matt sort of suggested maybe asking Rachel, and Puck legit nearly took him to the ground with a, “back the fuck off and don’t you fuckin’ dare.”)
By the end of the night, Rachel and Puck were wrapped around each other in Mike’s backyard, kissing and dancing slowly to music only they could hear, completely lost in each other, and everyone was pretty much ready to hand their money over to Finn.
Except the following Monday at school, you’d think nothing had ever happened between them. Just longer lingering gazes, more frequent touching, and everyone was pretty much ready to just explode from the sexual tension between them. So close, and yet so far.
Matt’s kinda surprised actually that Puck hasn’t caved and just asked her out. He’s that kinda guy. Always goes after what he wants, no matter what (or who) is standing in his way.
Except, apparently, when it comes to Rachel Berry, and seriously, when you have sexual tension that extreme that everyone else can feel it, and even Schue’s getting uncomfortable about it, why the hell would you not just grab her and do something about it?
Plus, Rachel’s kinda hot, and Matt’s always sort of thought that. Something about tiny skirts and knee socks.
But Puck’s his boy, so he’s staying well away from that, and instead lays his bet on something going down by the new year. It’s almost September, so Puck’s got a couple of months to do something and make Rachel his, as frustrating as the waiting may be.
Just last week, they all got to watch as they came in to Glee practice just in time to see Puck tickle Rachel as they both laughed and she squealed as she started to fall and he caught her and pulled her onto his lap. They were completely in their own little world, and then Finn loudly stumbled in, apologising for being late, and whatever moment Puck and Rachel were having was broken and they didn’t meet anyone’s eye line for the entire duration of practice.
And last night, as they left football practice, Rachel was sitting on the bleachers waiting for Puck to finish up. When Matt asked him about it, he muttered something about a ride home, and when they were all done in the showers, Rachel and Puck were still sitting there, her ruffling his newly grown in Mohawk and him smiling genuinely at her as she held his other hand. He’s not a fan of cheesy chick flick shit, but seriously? That scene right there walked right out of a romance movie where the couple are staring into each others eyes as they talk about whatever and everyone knows they like each other or love each other or what the fuck ever.
And then Kurt coos something about the lovebirds, and Puck breaks away as if he’s been burnt and goes to shower, leaving Rachel sitting there waiting patiently, and the other guys shoving and swearing at Kurt about being a mood killer.
Three months they’ve both been single and playing this crazy, pointless dance.
And Glee Club are beginning to feel like they’re being driven completely insane. Plans are discussed, made, attempted, just to get the two obviously in love and insanely attracted people together.
Kurt gets to trial his “lock them somewhere” plan, but it’s thwarted by a window, although Matt’s pretty sure Puck got to cop a feel as he helped Rachel down from said window, because the smirk he gave as he wandered away was pretty damn proud.
Santana sets Rachel up on a date and tells her that since she’s single and obviously not attracted to any particular person she’s a free agent and therefore can go on a date with the total hottie in her math class. “I haven’t seen him naked, B, but his guns are huge!”
Puck scoffs and rolls his eyes, and they’re treated to three days of him refusing to talk to Rachel and being a total pouter about the entire situation. And grumpy, angry, jealous Puck gets really, really scary.
When Santana purposely asks about the date, Rachel comments that it took all the acting skills she possessed just to survive because she was nearly bored to tears.
Puck starts smiling again.
There’s another party celebrating a sectionals win, and when Santana and Mike bust into the spare room hoping to celebrate it in naked style, they interrupt another moment where Puck and Rachel were possibly/hopefully/potentially about to finally release their sexual tension and just get together.
It doesn’t happen.
Rachel goes home alone, Puck gets drunk, and makes a move on some random cheerleader who came for the party.
Glee Club is actually about ready to kill him.
--
Monday morning, Rachel cries in the bathroom and then tries to pretend that she hasn’t. Puck keeps reaching for her hand and trying to touch her, and she keeps moving away, to the point where a few of the more intuitive people in Glee Club (Matt, Quinn, Santana) wonder if maybe more has been going on between them behind closed doors than either of them have let on about.
But it’s frustrating as hell, because they seem to be further away from anything, and the sexual tension is stronger than ever.
And then Rachel goes home with Santana and asks her if she thinks that maybe if she just kisses Noah, things will be easier, that she’ll be over it because she’s had it and it’ll solve all their problems.
Santana rolls her eyes, tells her to fuck him and get it over with, and it’ll be a worthwhile experience and it’ll solve all the sexual tension, too. Win for all.
Rachel asks her if she thinks Puck genuinely likes her for more than a roll between the sheets, and Santana says yes so loudly that they’re both shocked.
And when Rachel goes home, Santana activates Glee phone tree to let them all know that chances are, by tomorrow, something will have happened between Puck and Rachel and sexual tension will be gone.
A week later, a tired and frustrated Glee Club arrive to practice early, clutching various sources of caffeine.
Nothing they’ve tried has worked. Short of banging their heads together and hoping it knocks some sense into them, they’re fresh out of ideas, and ready to murder both Puck and Rachel. But they also sort of want to win Regionals this year, so losing two of their leads is very counter productive to that goal.
Matt’s had enough. Usually, he’d consider himself to be a pretty passive kinda guy who goes with the flow.
But with all of them at breaking point, someone needs to just step up and do something about it, and Quinn elects him to do the job, because he’s one of the few that can get through to Puck without using physical violence (which Santana tried).
So he waits until Puck’s hanging around in the showers after football practice, and when the other guys have left, and makes his move.
“The fuck, dude?” Puck says, coming out of the shower wrapping a towel around his waist.
“I got enough to worry about with fuckin’ Hummel sharing our showers, do I have to start worryin’ bout you, too? Dude, I don’t swing that way.” Matt’s about to die laughing, and probably would, if he wasn’t so damn tired from thinking constantly about how the hell to get Puck and Rachel together and finally eliminate the sexual tension once and for all.
“Just wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Yo, whatever you caught from San did not come from me. I get my bits checked regularly. Thanks for the heads up, but legit, just go to the clinic.”
Matt rolls his eyes.
“I’m not thinkin’ bout me right now, dude, this is about you.”
Puck looks curious, glancing at him as he starts getting changed. “You and Rachel.”
“There is no me and Rachel.”
“That’s my point. You’re driving us all fucking crazy. You two like each other. You two want each other. You two just need to get the hell together. You guys seriously just need to do something about the obvious sexual tension that’s been keeping us all on edge for months. Seriously, I want to go back to the days when I used to go to sleep without the question of when you’re going to hook up being the last thought on my mind.”
Puck rolls his eyes. “Shit, and we thought Rachel was the dramatic one in Glee Club.”
“It’s all true. Honestly, I used to go to bed and think about good stuff like football and girls and games and whatever else, and now all I think about is when the hell you two are finally gonna hook up for real and put all of us out of our misery. It’s insane. You want each other. You like each other. You’ve made out a few times, obviously enjoyed it, so why the fuck can’t you just get it together?”
Puck stands there staring for a little while, and Matt knows that when he uses his words, it sort of throws people off for a little while.
It used to be amusing, but now he just wants Puck to shut up and listen, and he thinks maybe he is, finally.
Puck finally nods his head, confesses that he likes her and he’s pretty over the games too, and Matt’s pretty damn satisfied as he tells him that he needs to do something about it, like right now.
Matt nods, slaps him on the back, and leaves.
If he’d waited another two minutes outside the door to continue the conversation, he would’ve witnessed Rachel leaving the shower too, throwing herself into Puck’s arms, telling him she feels the same as she kisses him.
All Matt gets to know is that the next day in Glee Club, sexual tension is diminished, but the PDA between Rachel and Puck is borderline explicit and they all sort of want to close their eyes.
