Monthly Rant!!There's a huge difference between saying someone is your friend and actually being friends with that person. I'm tired of whining about this kind of shit, but really - why are you guys even pretending? Just fucking stop... be honest! You think I don't hear the gossip? God, it's like high school all over again, except this time it's ( Read more... )

Hey this is Matt(Argentina)
You work in a cable company? Waddya know?! I used to work in a cable company down here. Yesh pretty scary that ladder business... I never used the hooks on it and once I fell from it and nearly nailed my buttocks with a spiked grating!
On the other hand I got to meet several cool people... and several not-even-close-to-cool people.
But's just too fun to hang from rooftops! Yay!

hahah yeah, meeting people is probably the best part of the job. I don't mind the ladder work much, I've had a few jobs that required me to be on top of 2 story houses and such...

that and setting up christmas lights *curses*

Did you do service work or installations?

Both. But mainly installations. Cable & Cablemodem for Cablevision. The sucky part about installations was the fact that you have to carry the ladder from each location to the next one. That shit is heavy!
And... cablemodems have the worst setup of signal detection here... but it also deppends on the zone you're and the cablemodem brand you're using. Nothing beats motorola. They suck making cellphones but they're great at cablemodems.
So, you guys use 0.59 0.60 and class 11 fit-ins or what? I hated class 11. It's the badass-est co-axial, heavy as shit.

CARRY the ladder? What the fuck!? Our ladders are like 70+ pounds, that's retarded.

Yeah, motorola modems are all we use now... used to use tarayon's and they cause issues all over the place. Cable's pretty easy to work with in Edmonton, I'm pretty content with the job.

We just use RG6 and 11 now, 59 is getting phased out. I don't mind the 6, but running aerial temps using 11 is fucking hard... SO heavy.

We used RG6 for the outside if it was a residence like a house, then RG59 for interiors. Black mainly but sometimes we used white. RG11 sucks big time. It's so easy to hurt your hands with the portant...
About the ladder, yes they do that. Not only that, infact we carried with the RG59 and RG6 coils kicking them down the street.
I'm not gonna whine about it, but yeah in Argentina every job like that condemns you to that kind of... slavery would be the best word to describe it. Anyway, you guys work in couples or in big teams. I used to be transported with my team in a Transit (we were about 20 guys so it was fun and mean jokes all the way, can you imagine the wedgies?) to our first location, then we were distributed in couples and sometimes they transported us if you were lucky.
Man, do you have MSN Messenger by any chance? :P

hahahah wow... we get our own vans, and we have teams of 1. you poor slaves...

we meet in the morning to figure out eachothers routes then we take our own vans and go out and do the work by ourselves. It'd be sweet to go in a mass team though, definitely way more fun.

RG59 drops to the house seem to go bad here because of the weather (mega cold winters create a lot of moisture when spring hits) so in the summer we put in a ton of maintenance calls to rip out the 59 cable and put in RG11 underground. We only use RG6 to the house if it's under 100ft away from the nearest tap, otherwise it's all 11 - aerial too.

And by the way, I do have MSN - idealdelusion@hotmail.com

"we get our own vans, and we have teams of 1"

Oh, is that a "Mich quote"? Teams of 1... LOL!

Wow how many places you do in one day, may I ask?
Yeah, it was like a big fucking A-TEAM, and though we didn't have any Mr-T we had fun on rainy days (those days you don't work - it is forbidden)
