It would make more sense to leave Ares in the movie all together, or keep any role he plays to stuff off screen. Using past footage to put him the movie is just lame, and will come off a bit awkward. Not to mention there's probably some legal issues to be delt with in doing so.

I just think it would be good to leave something in memory of Kevin Smith.
