On another scholastic note, my Intermediate Algebra teacher, Mrs. Lyons, is very adequately named. I believe come tomorrow at least 1/3 of the class will have dropped. We already had two walk out smack in the middle of class. And I'm glad for it! If you raise your hand just to say something as truly ignorant as "We just want to learn the numbers" while someone is trying to teach you the vocabulary needed to actually USE those numbers --and if you are fool enough to murmur in agreement-- then you fully deserve any tirade brought down upon your head. Just "teaching the numbers" is exactly why more than half the American population can't do basic algebra (myself included), so if someone's actually taking the time to teach it right, be GRATEFUL, not insolent!
I mean, saying that is akin to telling an English professor to "just teach the words". How can you understand the words if you don't know the grammar, sentance structure, and logic behind how they're put together? You might as well learn gibberish.
