Here's my photos of Victoria, more or less in the order that I took them. One of the very first things I encountered? A mermaid.
She was holding still, until someone put money in the hat, and then would play her accordion for a short while, moving in a graceful but mechanical way, smiling sweetly. She had flyers identifying her as "Hilarie Ann Higgins, Show Girl Extraondinaire." She reminded me of
Dame Darcy (
damedarcy).
My dad and I ate almost every meal at a bar or pub. We were eating at
Steamers, when the police started gathering across the street. Soon we were all on our feet watching life's rich pageant. Look at the top of the parking garage (top center of the photo):
We never found out what happened, but the situation seemed to diffuse eventually. Continuing to walk around the city, I found these snuffalupagus trees in front of the Empress hotel.
As the sun began to set, we found a native art outdoor museum.
