The Vaux's swifts' use of an elementary school chimney is an annual event in Portland.

I see A&L daily and librarian.net on your links list, and some suspiciously familiar icon love. Friends? :)

A rare saving grace of summer birding down here. :) If I'd been in any shape to make suggestions at all at the time, these guys would have been at the top of my request list when you asked, a little while back. Love seeing and hearing those little flying cigars twittering home into my neighborhood at night.

Follow-up request in a similar vein--do you guys get common nighthawks hunting around brightly-lit billboards and city buildings during the summer? We can get some pretty impressive aerial gymnastic displays down by the Circuit City on North Monroe Street, come mid-July, ourselves. Dozens and dozens of birds looking like WWII dogfighters, diving after moths in the lights, all with that funky "PEENT!" call. :D

I have a bird book that describes it's shape like that of a "flying cigar" so whenever I see one I'm like, "Oh there goes a little flying cigar!"
