Our June Urban Nature Walk was at Savin Hill Beach in Dorchester. This sun-bleached European green crab shell on dry seagrass is a good symbol of how hot and dry it's been.
Mediterranean rock pigeon lurking in the seagrass is here to remind us we're in the city.
Small European green crab would like to be put back under the rock now please.
These crustaceans are closed up tight until the tide comes back in and they can catch edible particles with their legs. (they have to use their legs, since they are glued to the rock head first)
The beach was littered with dozens of razor clam shells, but it came as a real surprise to encounter a live one!
Asian shore crab would like you to put the seaweed back now please.
