Last Saturday my dad and I met in Athol Massachusetts to catch some of the 5th annual Fungus Fair.
There were tables and tables of collected specimens, including a few I recognized from field guides but had never seen in person.
The main reason I made the trip was to see David Arora speak. David wrote Mushrooms Demystified, still unequaled in its scope and usefulness in mushroom identification some 30-odd years later. It's best to use it with another guide or two, to cross-reference and double-check. David showed slides of different large-scale wild mushroom collecting operations he has visited around the world.
Afterwards my dad and I went to the Blind Pig pub for some lunch and a cider.
