Visiting Boston

Aug 11, 2010 21:07

I posted these pictures on Facebook and wasn't going to bother putting them here, since their "nature" quotient is very low. But I've been posting a lot of arguably gross bug pictures, and not everyone who reads this is a bug person. So a friend of Alexis' from high school (who lives far away now) was in Boston for business, and we met her and went out for dinner and drinks.

I hadn't spent any time in the Back Bay lately, and I was impressed with its beauty. My photos are actually a pretty poor representation, but they hint at the wondrous scale and contrast of the architecture. It took me years to appreciate Boston (or any, really) architecture, but now I think I get it.

Trying to find a bank machine here was more difficult than in the outer neighborhoods. We went into an implausibly shiny bank to get some money out.

Friends reuinited, at Delux.

I've had a long standing grudge with this place, since the only time I came here before I was trying to meet up with people and eat food, and it was so insanely packed that I couldn't even see in the door. Even on a Monday night every table was full. I didn't realize that the owner(s) has(ve) a thing for cartoons--I would have come back years ago! Note the Marge Simpson Playboy pages on the wall.

The only TV in the place plays Cartoon Network all the time, by order of the boss. At one point I was very distracted from the conversation, because it looked to me like one of the cartoons was by Brian Ralph, but it was apparently "Advenure Time" by Pendleton Ward. Another cartoon looked like it might be by John Kricfalusi, but was actually "Flapjack," by Thurop Van-Orman. I'm hopelessly out of touch with comics and cartoons.

Michelle likes to laugh.
