So my awesome beautiful talented buddy
juju told me a story a long while ago. When she had to travel interstate, she opted for the train. It turned out that she was sitting next to the especially extraordinary
Alan Brough. Frankly, the idea of sitting next to Alan Brough (a contender for my ideal dinner party) for hours makes me feel a little tight in the chest, but that's beside the point in this story.
Once Jules' trip was over, she headed back to the interstate train. Who did she sit next to?
Alan Brough. So for you, I pose my first question. What are the odds?? They weren't travelling for the same reason, so they weren't automatically starting and finishing their trips at the same time, let alone catching the same train, let alone sitting next to each other, again. Tell me about those incredibly small odds.
The reason why I thought of this historical event today is that while I was doing my grocery shopping, I glanced at the people alighting from a nearby tram. One of them was
Alan Brough. I did an embarrassing double take - you know the kind, the 'I know you from somewhere - oh wait you're famous - oh god I looked twice and now I look like a fool' kinds of double takes. BUT it got me to thinking.
If Jules had caught the train interstate and back with some random stranger instead of
Alan Brough, and they'd been the one to get off the train while I was toting a box of dairy- gluten- soy- free goodies, I wouldn't have known. It made me wonder, how often does that kind of thing happen, and we just don't know about it?? How small is the world really, anyway?
Hmmm, introspection. Hmmm, rhetorical questions. It just got me thinking. This in itself was a rare enough even that I considered it worth sharing. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Anyway, just for something completely different, here's a picture of
me and Alan Brough.
