Mouth Death

Sep 15, 2010 22:49

I just found out that the original "Mouth" of Mouth & MacNeal died six years ago. Of course, I think I'm the only person in the United States, perhaps all of North America, who remembers "How Do You Do", so that explains why I didn't hear a news report of his death. Not that I knew much about him or his duo; I had no idea until I randomly looked them up just now that they were actually Dutch. And I certainly would have laughed if I had seen that photo in Wikipedia back in the day.

This is almost as shocking as when I discovered the other obscure band, Paper Lace, that had a hit the same year as Mouth and MacNeal ("The Night Chicago Died") wasn't American, either. I found this out because I was trying to figure out what historical event the song was referring to. (Answer: NONE.)

Edit: OK, I guess it wasn't the same year, just the same semi-decade. Probably the song I was thinking of that was the same year as "How Do You Do" was "Brandy".
