Vincent Price

I had a dream last night that I was watching a Twilight Zone episode starring Vincent Price. He was building his own rocket; it looked like the one Andy Griffith built in "Salvage". He had a few explosions and other troubles, but eventually was able to launch it... only it sent him to Earth's past, during the Great Depression. As he was leaving a soup kitchen to try to steal some clothes off a windowsill to disguise himself, a cop shouted, "hey, what are you doing?" and he ran away... but the camera pulled back to reveal that the cop is Vincent Price!

And then the camera pulled back further to reveal another Vincent Price watching the cop Vincent shouting at the first Vincent. It soon became apparent that Vincent Price kept going back in time, trying to find a way back to the time where he belonged, and doubles of himself in different disguises were multiplying rapidly.

Then he woke up (you thought I would say "and then I woke up, didn't you?) He was back in his own time, in bed, next to his wife, who assured him that everything was OK. He called his psychiatrist and had a discussion with him about his feelings of mental instability.

And then the psychiatrist sent people to take him into custody, to prevent him from harming himself or others. The intruders in his home accused him of a spree of violence; his wife, who was previously fine, was still in bed, with her throat slashed, lying in a pool of her own blood. Vincent Price argued with some shadowy people as he struggled to break free from some silent, masked heavies. During the struggle, he pulled off one of the masks ...

... And it was himself. A zombie Vincent Price, actually. And then a (living) Vincent Price stepped out of the shadows to direct the zombies to take the madman Vincent Price to the sanitarium across the street.

He woke up again and called his psychiatrist, who warns him he should come over immediately for some rest and a mental evaluation. The camera cuts to his psychiatrist.

Vincent Price, of course.

It seems that in this "episode", Vincent Price had traveled back in time repeatedly until there was some kind of temporal catastrophe and he became everyone in the world. Only crazy Vincent Price has become mentally unstable and has started killing other Vincent Prices. Or maybe the other Vincent Prices made up that part, but I'm not sure why they would do so. But then, a lot of other things in the dream didn't make much sense. Why would they suddenly have the technology to re-animate corpses? And why would they do that to create slaves, anyways? I suppose when he travelled back in time, he somehow changed history enough that the Earth developed zombification technology.

Someone else pointed out that the whole dream was sort of a twist on "The Last Man On Earth", except that Vincent Price, instead of being the last man on Earth, had become every man on Earth. I had been thinking about that movie before I went to bed, so that may have influenced me.

An amusing side-note: this was a dream of me watching a TV show, remember. There was a commercial break before Vincent Price woke up the first time, and the show had some kind of host, like you would see on a weekday local kids' TV show. And there was someone in a bear costume (not a realistic costume, more like Dancing Bear from the Captain Kangaroo show.) And I was thinking "I bet they hired Vincent Price to put on the costume! That would be cool!" Unfortunately, the actor never took off the bear-head, so I don't know if it was Vincent Price or not.

I suppose I could summarize this post as: "Vincent Price".

tv, vincent price, dreams
