(as witnessed in tomscud's LJ.)

1. Grab the nearest book.

2. Open the book to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.

5. Don't you dare dig for that cool or intellectual book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

6. Tag five people.
For example, when Superman takes a lump of coal and compresses it with his hands, applying superforce to turn the coal into a perfect diamond, the value added, represented by Superman's applied strength, is significant. The term explains how wealth is created; it's also what you use to justify all those hours you've been putting in on the Super-Pullover machine.

VALUE-ADDED TAX: Like the name says, a tax on the value added.

All of the books closest to my computer are reference books. This one was Jones and Wilson, An Incomplete Education. Oh, and I just realized I turned to page 124 instead of 123, but I just put in all that effort to type that stuff in, so it's staying put.

I rarely got the opportunity to buy comics when I was a kid, so I never read much Superman. In the only one I read where Superman squeezed coal into a diamond, a nearby construction worker was turned into a living human-shaped diamond as a side effect, apparently because the squiggily lines coming out of Superman's hand as he exerts superforce can transform human beings into diamonds at a distance. As long as they are made of coal, I suppose.

Boy, Superman was sorry he did that, because diamond is the hardest substance on earth! The Man of Diamond kicked The Man of Steel's butt!

ADDENDUM:

Naturally, after all that typing, I posted the message with the incredible phrase "VALUE-ADDED YAX". I wonder if that's an eastern pack animal?
