Not for me

Just got this for my mother for her birthday.  As ya'll know, she's not well.  Today she just cried in frustration, so anything I can do to cheer her up, I'll do.  She's on the computer all the time  researching  and this will replace her current 12" laptop that she's had for years and has been complaining it's too slow.

The replacement needed to be Windows and it needed to be small and light. At around 3 lbs with a 12.5" screen this is perfect. There are better performers, but this far exceeds her needs - and she's all about aesthetics and this is a beauty with the bronze color and the leather finish inside.

Kind of shocked me that she blurted out a couple of weeks  ago "I want a new computer for my birthday!"   LOL.  That's not really like her. She's usually Miss "I don't want or need anything" and I don't think she actually expected me  to just go buy her one.  She depends on me to tell her what to buy because she has no idea, but hey.  If she wants it and I can swing it, she gets it.

The funny thing is . . . I'd be far more reluctant to buy things like this for me.  I'd like an iPad, but do I buy one?  No.  I should probably have a back-up computer for work, but do I buy one?  No.  Mom wants a computer, and I don't think twice about spending it on her. But I didn't really go wanting for much as a kid, and I don't want her to go wanting for things now.

So I'm excited!  Now the hard part will be waiting for 2 weeks until her actual birthday, but it will  give me time to get it all set  up for her so that when she  opens it, it's all configured for her and ready to use.    I'm back at the hotel in San Francisco next  weekend, so maybe I'll take it with me up there and do it then.

Measuring up at 12.5″ x 8.1″ x 0.7″ and weighing 2.9 pounds,  the Lenovo IdeaPad U260 is the very first ultraportable laptop that features a screen display of about 12.5-inch and is powered with the second generation Intel Core i5 470UM processor with a clock speed of 1.33GHz.

Inspired by the silhouette of a classic leather-bound journal, the U260 exudes elegance with a “U” shaped outline and a specially engineered one-piece magnesium-aluminum alloy frame, making it stronger yet thinner and lighter. The exterior cover, which boasts a one-piece design without any breaks in the pattern, is made possible by the latest insert- molding injection technology.

Its black leather-patterned palm rest is soft to the touch providing comfort and support for the user while giving a luxurious look. The stainless steel frame around the chiclet keyboard is the perfect complement to the leather-textured exterior. A durable, yet silky smooth glass touchpad with matte exterior etching gives just the right resistance for multi-touch functionality such as pinch-to-zoom photo browsing and web surfing.
