"So I booked two more weekends over the next 10 weeks and sent them an email complementing my buddy at the front desk. Thanks so much. Was just thinking about you and wondering how you were - and how the dog is. ?!?!
It's not so much just work. That's actually going a bit better - because oddly enough, they now have me training all their new people! I mean, I didn't know this field existed a year ago or what xml was. I had no background in computers or code - now I'm doing it for a living, and I'm training people in it. How weird is that? And getting more kudos letters from my clients than anyone else in the company, so I'm feeling more confident.
But since I'm training, the new people are doing much of the work while I supervise and run the client meetings. :-) So that has given me a bit of breathing room for the last couple of weeks. Most people hate to train newbies but I like it. I was doing college tutoring a year ago just for fun and loved it. The whole mentor thing is right up my alley.
But it's still stressful. Now I'm responsible for others when I still dont' know what I'm doing half the time. Yikes. And combined with being "displaced" to the Bay Area to take care of my mother's health issues away from my home and my friends, it's a tough time. I feel like I have no life. I'm OK with that right now. I need to do what I need to do and I wouldn't have it any other way, but it doesn't mean I don't still want to be back in LA near my friends and with some time to enjoy life.
