Laying one audio track over another is not a Mashup. Am I kind of a snobby dick when it comes to 'Mashups'? No.
Am I bit snappy because of your virtual abandonment of those of us who like receiving you at this locale? Yes.

Here's my favorite Mashup: http://bit.ly/schm-dutchie
4 songs, 3 genres, 1 common subject - Layered and mixed, hence Mashed

Hmm. Well, the spoken word track was not just laid over, it was cut and positioned with time-consuming meticulousness.

Sorry you're upset I'm back on Livejournal.

Okay. You did some cutting and positioning with thoughfulness and, because you did it so well, I didn't notice. I guess because I really wasn't familiar with the source, I should have given you the benefit of the doubt. I apologize for being rude, and overly and ignorantly judgemental. Though, for it to be a proper Mashup, there should really be some re-mixing, over-dubbing, BPM-messing, and silent-running (or so I say). In retrospect, I should have been more positive and let you know I totally appreciate your choice of song to go with the narration and video and that it sounds nice.

Obviously I'm not upset you're back on Livejournal.

There's no "silent-running" but there is some "day-of-the-dolphining."

Buck Henry was behind me at an ATM once. I became giddy and nervous and couldn't complete my transaction. I did say 'hello' as I left and he said 'hello' back. Fantastic for me! The same would not happen with Stephen Bochco behind me. Mainly because I don't know what he looks like.

This is why, in spite of all the social-stigma, I love Livejournal.

It's several days later and, though I apologized for my abruptness regarding MashUps, I have since found out that my definition of MashUp is wrong. Apparently, via Wikipedia, a MashUp is: "A song or composition created by blending two or more songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the music track of another." So, my friend, not only is what you did quality audio editing, it is a MashUp. Allow me to qualify my though that MashUps transcend mixing/editing one vocal track over another song. As I said before, there is a stellar MashUp using 4 songs from 3 genres with the same subject matter and I have been spoiled by the likes of it ( ... )
