The Weather in Baghdad and City College Snipe Hunt

Mar 21, 2003 14:20

I'm slowly becoming resigned to the war in Iraq. It's like this; I think getting rid of Saddam Huessein and his arsenal is a great idea. I really do. But I don't know when they're going to consider this one finished, you know? We've still got troops in Afghanistan- hell, we're practically running Afghanistan.

And yet at the same time I keep finding myself pissed off with the anti-war protesters. It made more sense a few days ago, before they started tossing missles and such. Right now... what's the point? I'm not about to join the group of idiots marching around with "peace symbol equels swastica" signs either, but...shit. I don't know anymore.

What's really getting me about this, and what I keep thinking about, is the absurdity of the local news coverage of the not-quite-a-war-yet. The local weatherman is doing reports on the temps in Baghdad, for Gods' sakes. "Tomorrow in Baghdad it will be sunny and warm..." Yeah, with a chance of missle showers... Give me a break! They can't even get our weather predictions right. And it's not like our troops are in Baghdad yet anyway. Kuwait City weather, weather on the Kuwait-Iraq border, that'd be more useful.

But what do I know? I've been running around campus all week, on a snipe hunt for the summer/fall schedule that was supposed to be out the day of my priority registration (disabled students programs is good for something, after all). Yeah, right. Apparently the schedule was a victim of budget cuts, and they've had to reprint it with the new heavily pared-down course listing, and who knows when it'll show up? Today I was told "Maybe next week". But they have the summer schedule out at least.

Yay. I'm not doing summer school; it was never my intention to do summer school. I'm going to need a break.

Hell, I need a break now.

So they have the courses on the school website, which is a joke, always crashes, and... you get the idea. I got to scramble to find classes, and so far I'm taking Algebra I (Yay!), American Gov (blech, requirements) and... I can't decide if I'm amused or annoyed by this, Computer Literacy. I hear there's a test you can take to skip that last one, but I can't pass it; I don't know spreadsheets and I don't know all the internal parts of the computer. Oh well. It should at least give me a nice break from the PoliSci and the algebra. Which I think I'm gonna need.

Made new icons this morning; that's my senior class picture. Took new pics with the digicam today, which I'm going to play around with later.

I have so much stuff to do for Urbandruid, but it's going really well. I downloaded an image mapping program yesterday (normally I'm a hand-coding purist, but like hell I'm figuring out coordinants on my own, no way) and have been playing around with it. I also think I've fallen in love with iframes, but that's okay, because the higher Netscapes (as in, higher than the crappy 4.7 I still have on the laptop) can display them alright.
