Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Ok fine I read it and yeah it was good.

8/10

EDIT: FINE ok I'll say a little more about it.

It's funny how books like this or A Million Little Pieces or Mein Kampf don't become controversial until they are popular. (Not so much the last one, ignore that.) Not funny as in interesting; the reasoning is perfectly simple. Funny as in "haha funny".

And then it stops being funny.

Look, the point of books - and I don't care how elitist you are or what kind of degrees you have - is to entertain. Some people are entertained by the amazing diction or composition or layers of symbolistic allegorical metaphor that unravel before their eyes. Some people like to deconstruct books to learn how to write better, or to learn how to read better. Some people like to read books that are literally impossible to comprehend. And some people just like to read a damn good story.

Those people don't give a shit where the story came from.

Shut the hell up and let us read our stories.
