So what's the difference between judo and jiu jitsu?

From what I understand, Judo is much, much more formal. It's regarded as a sport AND a martial art. Jiu jitsu was developed ONLY for self-defense. There are no rules. It's just fighting. BJJ is a fusion of both of those. It's for self-defense, but has a rule system created around it for "sport BJJ".
