MGS4 impressions part 1

probably anyone who was already interested in this game has already beat it, or started over on liquid easy difficulty. I finally gave it a go for a few hours today/yesterday.

Ever since the announcement of this game several years ago, I've been in total anticipation of it. To prepare myself I played through mgs twin snakes, mgs2 and some of mgs3 (just played it last year, so I just played a little and watched all the important cutscenes) in preparation. After doing all that a lot of the setup to this game made perfect sense, and I am no longer confused about why snake is old without even playing mgs4 first.

Anyways, picking up the game without checking the instruction manual was a bit confusing for me. The controls aren't the same as the previous playstation games (twin snakes, the remake of mgs1 is for gamecube) as you R1 to shoot instead of circle. I've heard some reviews complaining about shooting off of corners, but I haven't run into that issue. However, I wish there was an easier way to shoot from above a wall. Another issue is that there is no button to reload your weapon. My biggest issue however is that I absolutely suck at fps games on a console and that is basically how you aim and shoot in this game. Thankfully they added auto lock which helps sometimes, but in huge skirmishes, I have to buckle down and take off auto aim.

From the start of the game there are four difficulties:
big boss hard
solid normal
snake? normal
liquid easy
I honestly didn't find much a difference between the two normal modes. liquid easy is beyond easy, it is rediculous. I find the hard mode impossible to avoid enemies no matter what I do, but I exploit normal so much, I find it slightly frustrating.

I've only gotten in the game right after you meet the arms dealer. I am a little afraid of the shop in this game. Unlike re4, this shop seems to be always available. Even during a boss fight? I heard the answer to that question is yes... If this is true, you can kiss the difficulty curve goodbye...

probably more the next time I play and at a time I am still awake. lol
