I'm plowing through my WIPs and the finish is in sight - just one more queen sized and three more laps to go!
This one is a quilt for my youngest son's 17th birthday - which isn't until next March, actually,
You see, he may be only 16 going on 20 (in his mind, anyway); but he thinks of himself as a sophisticated young man. I wanted to make something for him that reflected that metrosexual taste, but would survive the ravages of his late teens and early adulthood.
All of the fabrics have the same hand as a silk or cotton twill, but are actually rayon upholstery fabrics. Those fabrics will take a lickin' and keep on tickin' but, should he ever decide to wash them, they'll stand up to it - and being upholstery fabrics, they're stain resistant.
A couple of my adult male friends love this quilt so much (two have seen it at various points in it's construction) that they want me to make them versions - so I can forsee that this quilt will come up again. Luckily, it was a dream to quilt - my sorta straight lines on a diagonal in the solids, straight across at 1.75 inch intervals in the stripe, and pebbles in the dot fabric. Speaking of, that "stripe" fabric is actually the reverse side of the front of the fabric - the dot. And what could be a better coordinate?
And so there it is. "Little Boy Blue" my son's birthday present for next year - already in the bag! :)
