Breaking News - Beavers Return to NYC

Feb 23, 2007 20:28

For the first time in 200 years, a beaver has been spotted in the five boroughs.

The beaver has taken up residence and built a lodge in the Bronx River, which like most of the city's waterways was severely polluted during the city's industrial era but has been the subject of recent clean-up efforts. The beaver, being considerably more welcomed than most big rodents in the Bronx, was dubbed 'Jose' after the representative who spearheaded the effort for clean-up funding in the river.
