On Wednesday I accompanied a school group to Plumb Beach in Brooklyn to see the Horseshoe crabs mating. I had no idea there were still salt marshes left in Brooklyn! The pictures are quite large which is why all of them are under the cut.
There were tons of birds on the mud flats on the way to the salt marsh. I know a few were sea gulls and at first the larger ones looked like canadian geese but there colors were a bit different and they were a smaller bird, I have no idea what they actually are.
There were tons of these guys all over the place! This is a male of some sort of fiddler crab, I don't know the species though.
and here is the first pair of horseshoe crabs we saw!! The females are obviously much bigger than the males.
Group Shot!
A male unattached to his female in the water channel. I think once the tide comes in that means that they're done. They just kind of chill out together until then.
And that is your dose of aquatic animal love for the day!
