Baby bunnies

For those who celebrate Easter and for those who just like rabbits or cute baby animals.

These little hoppers were born in our backyard in June 2008. They lived there for a few weeks, sheltered in peace by our high wooden fence. There were six in total; final count was taken the evening their mother came to collect them. Just for the record, I never knew prior to this that rabbits built nests, covered by what I termed a "rabbit toupee" - a round mat of fur covering the shallow hole.

First to leave the nest.

Smooshy pile of comfort.

Second baby to leave the nest.

I'd gone back inside for a bit, came back out, and found this little one on the patio. He apparently didn't want to get caught there!

Poor thing was so confused trying not to be seen, it hopped towards the fence, then just stopped, facing it for a few minutes. Note: the nice, hiding grass was only about 14 inches to its right.

My husband couldn't mow the lawn for a few weeks, but it was worth it. We loved having our little guests. Obviously, from my ton of photos. ;)
