Our little community is about to be in the livejournal spotlight! This is a nice, good thing, but we should brace ourselves for about 20 posts a day of blurry cellphone pictures of cats and tulips in people's back yards. I've been through this before, and it's kind of overwhelming, but it's kind of fun too.
We can direct bug and spider queries to
whats_that_bug and
entomology and bird questions to
birdlovers. I think it's
birdvolunteers for the inevitable "I found a baby robin/house sparrow/pigeon/emu" questions. We can always direct people to
this post for the top 8 "what the hell is that" urban animals. Of course, we can be kind and answer ourselves, if we know the answer to a question that comes in.
We won't be screening, at least not at first (more labor than it's worth, imo), unless we start getting spammed. Maybe no one will care and we won't see a significant uptick in posting, who knows! But it is a nice opportunity to share your photos and thoughts about urban nature with a greater number of people.
